My friend gave me an idea this afternoon.

Why not to use Sienna 3rd row seats:

I saw the split bench ones, but didn't like how they didn't have head rests. I got one for a 1995 Jeep Wrangler.

I used belts out of a 2nd gen 4runner rear middle seat. Just the lap belts worked fine. I didn't see a reason to order new belts even though they are cheap enough.

Whatever seat you order, just make sure it comes with mounting hardware and brackets. Some of the seats just replace the stock style ones and don't include brackets. If you go with the same seat I did, then it will come with brackets and hardware. Also test fit well and make sure the hatch closes without an issue. Its not that hard.

Is Sienna that much higher on the back? I was thinking kid seat. There is no much space for adult anyway.

Alex, just take a look at the pics between the two. That seat is at least 6-8" off the floor. Now, go open up the hatch and sit in the floor and measure the distance from your head to the roof without a seat in it.

An adult will not fit in the back anyway. This is my 13 year old son in the back. He has 4" to the roof with the seat on the floor, but leg room is more of the issue.

Wow. It always good to see the picture of an item in action.

I'll check the height in my 4Runner. How high is the coushion sits from the floor? Is that 6" you refered to?

When I was thinking of my friends idea of Sienna seat, what I found is that I might not be able to fit 2 seats as they are 24" wide each, while I have 40" between plastic over the arches. So I thought (not taking height in consideration, just the position-wise), adding one seat on the left side (24") and building a storage box on the right (16"). How this idea sounds?

As mentioned before will have to investigate the height level. Scott, you may be right on this. May be my 4th Gen slightly taller...:)

BTW, Scott, your 4Runner as well as mine didn't had an option of 3rd row seat (particular unit). So you have coushion first, back second rear seat with smaller size at the driver side. How comfortable is get in - get out procedure? Would it be convenient to have child seat there, so I put my 2 year old there and then fasten his 5-point harness or belt?
