67" Marlin Crawler sliders installed!!!

I bought some 67" originally for an extended cab pickup from marlin crawler and 'adapted' them to fit my 60 series. These damn things had been sitting around for two months and four wheelin' trips and I finally got them installed! I haven't got them cleaned up or painted yet, but here they are!

Hmm....

Could those actually support the weight of the rig? Like, if you leaned onto a rock would they effectively just stay still and slide....or would they bend up into the body?

Dylan,
I think you'd want gussets where the round tubes meet the frame to distribute the load and to prevent the tubes from bending when a heavy/shock load is applied...other than that they look great!

Definitely gussets.

I would have also done 4 legs, but maybe that is overkill?

The sliders do look fine though.

I almost forgot. Did you do the high lift test? Any flexing when you jack the vehicle up?

Two things

What is your guys take on welding horizontally on the frame? The gussets go above the tubing to the plates on the frame right?

Thanks,

Dylan

Yes I did the hilift test and no flex or anything. I did want to do 4 outriggers but I could not find any 1.75 tubing local, and it didn't warrant a trip into the valley for 3.50 feet of tubing.

I would weld, given the only space it appears you have room, a triangular gusset that connects/supports the top of each tube strut with the frame. This would be a vertical weld on the frame not a horizontal weld.

Similar to Christo's: http://www.sleeoffroad.com/products/60_sliders.htm

Wow, those look right at home on your rig... which is SWEET by the way. I love big 60's.

If you already lifted them with a hi-lift, you would be hard pressed to bend them up on a rock, unless you dropped off a ledge onto them... but hey, 2badfj's always says "if you are going to build it... overbuild it!" ;)

Looks great man, sweet cruiser.

Cool thanks man, I think I am going to add some triangluar gussets on top just in case, ala Jims moto ;)

What do you guys think about welding horizontal on the frame?

Looks nice! I've got pretty much the same thing on my 80. Mine were actually free from Trail Gear. I won them in a drawing a few years ago on Pirate. But for all intents and purposes they are the same thing as the Marlin ones.

They flexed a little when I first did the hi-lift test. Then I added gussets. Been very sturdy since. Been tested in Moab and worked well. I've talked about these over on MUD a couple times, and there are other slider options available that are likely stronger. But it's hard to beat the price of these things. Under $200 compared to MUCH more for other ones. So if you've got a welder and can get them put together, this is a great cheap alternative.

Oh yeah, and clearance is great with these things. I cut little notches in the pinch weld on my truck for the outriggers, and this makes the bottom of the slider about 1" below the bottom of the rocker.

See how you can hardly tell they are there in this pic. I love the clearance of these with decent protection.
