Buddha.

Finally in expo white.
As far as I know, the jeep has spent it's whole life in Alabama. I think I've got oil leaks to an acceptable level after replacing the line. I'll take it to a pressure washer in a few days to clean some of the oil off, so I can better observe for more. I'm thinking of a rough country 2" with shocks, and 31x10.5's....

You have the 15" wheels?

2.25" might be better, considering how worn your springs might be...2.25" is $250

If those photos are accurate I wouldn't get that kit. If you look at the first link you will see a shaved side for the rear block. The unibody gets close to the spring mount and needs to be shaved for clearance. Also, 15 years ago when I bought mine, they only did 1.75" in the rear because of the spring retaining post length. I don't know if that has been changed or addressed since.

I have bilstiens, lol. The $189 kit looks like the same "no name" shocks that every lift kit comes with. I know someone who is "probably" running these (pulled them from the junkyard off a jeep with 2" spacers) and he's happy. For an occasional DD, I'm sure they will be fine. If you want to spend the $$, just go get a IRO 3.5" foundation or benchmark kits...

I'm actually running the foundation lift, with bilstiens, plus 2" spacers and adjustable short arms...GET LONG ARMS if you go over ~3"

Guess I need to find a local ZJ club and check out others in person. We have an 01 4runner with stock suspension and 265/75-16's that takes us everywhere we currently want to go. I think having the solid front axle with a little extra wheel travel will make our current trails a little easier than the IFS.

Make sure you get sway bar disconnects if you need flex, and that will also let you ride a lot better off-road...obviously don't disconnect until you're off road.

One thing to be careful of with the disco's, although I don't think it applies to this rig, disco'ing the swaybar if you have the CV/rezeppa style front driveshaft WILL grenade the front driveshaft sooner rather than later. Where a regular u-jointed shaft has two pieces that slide on each other to change the overall length of the shaft, the CV/rezeppa has that built in to the joint at the axle end and doesn't have nearly as much travel. Mostly it was the V8's and the few 4.0's that came with the 249 case that had this issue.

And where are you at OP? We just got done with a big Grand Cherokee event out in Moab called Grand Slam West. K2ZJ and I were out there and it's a great time and you can learn a LOT about ZJ's.

I thought ONLY V8's had the CV style...it was the 249 T-case for the indicator of that style?

He's got a 231 w/ a 4.0 so it sounds like he should be fine there. BigDave is right though...at 5.5" of lift with everything connected I grenaded (soft grenade, caught it before it went bad) my frond DS driving down the highway.

It was awesome again this year!

I think all Limited's came with the 249 and therefore the cv shaft. Mine was a 4.0L limited with the 249 and cv shaft.

Birmingham, alabama area. I'll check out the disconnects. Trying to talk the wife into letting me get a set of tires before her 4runner goes into the shop for its 250,000 mile service (water pump, shocks, timing belt, etc). BTW, can I throw 235/75-15's on it stock, as long as I keep it on the street until I get a lift? May have just found a deal on some BFG'S. ...
