Picked up a 72 scout II. 345/with automatic. 4x4 duh. Has the roll bar decent seats. All the glass is in great shape. Has ac(inop) The gas tank is out of it and there is some weird wiring going. It does run though just need to go through the fuel system. maybe even rebuild the carb. But the main reason I drove that far is there is no Rot on it. Some surface rust bu nothing to bad.

Are you sure it's not counterfeit? I heard the reason they quit making them was the cost of making a tetanus shot standard with those. :coffeedrink:

I was gonna say... Usually if there's no rust on a Scout it means all the bodywork has been replaced with Bondo. :sombrero:

I was a bit skeptical about the lack rot on the body. It was kind of a gamble to drive that far . Spent some time looking for bondo when we got there. Couldnt find any. Just some surface rust. Im really shocked it wasnt picked up sooner.

And I love my truck and almost sold it due to bills at the time. It pulled the scout without a hiccup. Not sure about the numbers but I used 2 tanks of fuel to get there and back. One way with a unloaded trailer, other loaded doing 70 with the ac going. Its not fast but it gets the job done.

Well nothing really set in stone except for body and frame protection from the elements. Like to keep it rust free lol.

I plan to pull the tub and media blast the frame and tub. I plan on doing it myself along with all the paint prep and paint.

Upgrading the axles with a spring over and shackle reverse.

As far as drivetrain goes, I like the 345 but im thinking 5.3 or 6.0 swap w/ 4l60e or 4l80e with a np241.

Id like to add a simple 6 point cage as well and........lots of other stuff lol

Sounds good. I kept my (modified) 345 but the 5.3 is nice and you can get pretty decent fuel mileage out of them. There are a couple writ ups on Binder planet of this exact swap. I did the SOA on mine but not convinced with flat/stock springs (which I run) the RS gains you anything. Good to see another Binder owner.
