Well I looked high and low for the rig I wanted and had to settle for a single step down.
Was looking for a 5.8l f150 but got a 5.0
Thankfully that I have an e4od so I can do a drop in 5.8 when I finish the rebuild.

so I picked up a mint (on the inside) 91 f150 scsb dual tank 4x4 xlt lariat (fancy)

from what I can tell and believe it is the original 84k in the clock. Truck has airbags from having a camper in it for a long time.

we will be going towards 35s (my lady told me just to go big or go home this time around)

building the bed system to sleep/live out of. (I get the awesome opportunity to be a traveling structural welder through the union so I get the please of getting paid to camp out)

looking at the backstop rear tire swing bumper.

already ordered the jbg 4”full lift with springs.

link to the day I picked it up.

This will be a long and video log of the work I will do. Yes I picked an old beat down truck that doesn’t look good, but hopefully that will Dissuade crooks from breaking in looking for stuff. Plus I have no qualms about going through thickets to stay on trail.

mid there’s anything you can think with these bricknose/obs ford let me know

Well in my search for some parts I found out the hard way that my brake fluid is actually brake water,( no wounded the brakes were spot on)
well I had to scrap some plans to go pick things up and do a brake job on a truck with 84k original miles.
got er done I can’t wait to do the 8 lug upgrade and get bigger brakes.

Project has been named.
Project ClapTrap

wel on todays Episode of how bad could an original really low mile truck from the early 90s be.
I had to change out the map and engine coolant sensor cause they were running amuck.

map sensor was so choked with oily gunk that it was giving a weird surge/throttle respons issue but not throwing a code.

as well as the exhaust. Ditched 1 of the dual cats (Cali emissions model) don’t need both here. The exhaust was pretty narly behind the cats the muffler had holes in it, so choose a knock off magnaflow.

Well I picked up the old man special.
Not an exact fit (one body style newer) I grabbed up a decent high rise camper shell.
not really worried about looks in this nor anything else anymore, more a matter of function.
can dang near stand up in it which I have been wanting to get dressed for the winter months.
carpeted, now to just add a 100watt panel a max air fan and build the bed platform and we are ready to go.

side note still having an issue with truck running poorly from time to time If I unhook the battery and drain the ecm of power then start it up all is good for a while.

Nice old truck, my only real concern would be computerized but not OBD2. Requires more to get codes out of the thing...

Wish I knew more about those early computer trucks. I know those pushrod V8s were a LOT more reliable than these variable cam timing Tritons in my truck...

I actually have the electronic scanner for these “non obd” trucks it tells me the code number and I look in my little book then just ask the internet what the standard meaning of said code is. Thankfully the bronco crowd is sooo helpful (I’m joking a lot of them are pricks)
