A good Android based tablet for GPS navigation

First off I have an iPad Air Wi-Fi only, so there is not GPS in it, so it only works with maps when at home connected to my network.
I know I can buy this for it:
Dual Electronics XGPS150A Universal Bluetooth GPS Receiver for Portable Devices
It would allow my iPad Air to work when away from home, but I also have a Bluetooth keyboard hooked up to the unit, and I do not want to have to pull it off the iPad as it is also a case that folds over it.

And I hear most Android tablets come with a GPS chip set installed in them, so you are not screwed over like you are if you buy an Apple product that has Wi-Fi only.
What is a good tablet to mount in an FJ Cruiser?
I suppose I would have to get some type of mount for it, would have to research that later, as I already have a mount on my dash for my Yaesu ham faceplate.

My Pioneer stereo has GPS and navigation in it, and it actually shows the forest service roads when I go off road.
But, there is no easy way to do waypoints and name areas that I explore for future campsites, so this is why I am looking into a good tablet setup too verses getting a handheld GPS like a Garmin or other make.
I guess I could use Back Country Navigator or Hema on the Android tablet.

Thanks...

I have an Asus Memo Pad 7. It has a 7 inch screen. Costs about $80 new on eBay. And if you get a new one it should come with Android Kit Kat which allows you to store apps on the memory card. The price seems to be going up on these as it's a discontinued model. I bought one a week ago for $65.

Thanks Chad.
I like Asus products, which is their new model in that size, as I would like to get one that is still in production.
What map app are you using too?
Would like something that shows me in real time when I am exploring, and be able to mark and name a road I turn down, and to be able to name a campsite I like.

I am using a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with a Ram mount.
I love the size, easy to read, GPS is fast. No issues.

I'm not sure what the new model is. I think if you click on the Amazon link it will tell you. I have just started using Gaia but I have a lot of other free GPS and mapping programs like the free version of BackCountry Navigator.

Thanks, I found the newer 10" model, now have to decide between it, or the smaller NVIDIA one.
The latter does get some rave reviews over on Amazon.

I have a Lenovo TAB A2 10 tablet and love the GPS included with it and have no problem getting enough signal strength to get a lock. I have used others and find they are more sensitive to dropouts with signal loss.
I have only used the Google Maps and downloaded them so I can use offline. Love the larger size makes navigation much easier. I do have a bluetooth external keyboard but haven't used it in the truck yet. I have added a lot of places of interest and waypoints added in my favorites and they are downloaded with the maps so I still see them when offline. The external keyboard would make doing searches easier.

I'm still using an older Samsung Tab 3 8" with downloaded Google maps as well. It works well enough and I like the size but I'll probably upgrade to a newer, faster tablet at some point- not sure about the new Samsung fireball models though. :Wow1: If I upgrade, I may root the Tab 3 and make it a dedicated truck tablet.

I have this LG G Pad http://slickdeals.net/f/9161947-100...rb-freedompop-50-free-shipping?src=SiteSearch

$50
Quad core snappy CPU
1gb memory
GPS
WIFI
LTE cell service(optional)

Just cancel the fredompop once you get the unit. I did through the app, didn't have to call, and took less than 5 min. Might want to keep it if sprint is good in your area but 100% Free Basic Plan – 500 texts, 200 minutes, and 500MB 4G LTE every month
OR
Upgrade to Unlimited Talk, Text, and 1GB 4G LTE trial – $19.99/mo

No contract/No BS from a reputable company(sounds like a sales pitch). I canceled it because their service sucks in my area but still have the free plan.

I would say most times that is right, but my LePan flies, has built in GPS etc….so you don't need anything. it's the same size and speed as a iPad mini as my son has one and we side by side tested.

Thanks kojack for the offer, but I am wanting to go brand new with something from Amazon so I have a warranty on it too.
