Afrispoor Off Road Trailer Introduction

First off, sorry to start a 2nd thread on the same topic but we have now become an Expedition Portal Sponsoring Vendor and I was advised by the forum moderator to post a formal introduction to our off road trailers.

Afrispoor Off Road Trailers were developed in South Africa by David Coombes, an avid outdoorsman. For the past 10 years David and his team have been refining the Aprispoor line to produce the ultimate off road all terrain tent trailer. Now, in March 2010, we are officially launching the the Afripoor Leopard Trailer in the United States. Our assembly facility is based in Deerfield Beach, Florida and headed up by myself, Chris Holloway.

Our trailers are manufactured from 3CR12 Stainless Steel that has been fully electrostatically painted.
It weighs in at 1200 lbs (1900 lbs with all accessories) with 8 leaf springs and heavy duty gas shocks.
10 separate cargo areas including 7 Stainless Steel and 6 plastic drawers creating an impressive 65 Square Feet of storage.
Options include fridge/freezer, 110v / 12v power systems with battery recharger, 20 Gal water tank and much more.
The trailer tent is impressive. Not only a size pop out tent with queen bed on top of trailer but also 2 optional modules that enclose the entire trailer making it suitable for 6 people. Finally check out the camp table storage in the back... very cool.

Please let us know what you think ?

The name. In Afrikaans, 'Spoor', mean track or animal print. We have had a lot of comments about the name and we are considering changing this for the US. Anyone have any ideas ?

Is there anything you would like to see improved or changed in our trailers ?

Lastly, we will be at the Overland Expo (www.ovexpo.com) in Arizona on April 16, 17 and 18. We look forward to meeting a lot of you there!

Thanks everyone and happy travels.

Intresting trailer with some nice features, will definately be looking at your trailer at the Expo. I actually kinda like the name of your company, it did not make me think "Africa is poor" although I can see where others would see that, maybe if it was done like Afri-Spoor or Afri'Spoor or Afri'Spor might help, Afritrail sounds to Americanized, whatever you do come up with I would try to keep an exoctic african sounding name to it. As far as changes/improvements to make to your trailer, I would like to see it in person first before suggesting something to you. See you at the Expo :wings:

Welcome, and best of luck!

Do your US trailers also use 5-bar safety tread plate (checkerplate)? I like that pattern better than our typical diamond plate, but it's trickier to source in the US.

I agree with the naming comments -- definitely can be different for the US market. How about something like Afritrack?

I think you leave the name as it is. What it means in Africa holds merit here.
I didn't view it in a negative light.

I own a Conqueror Conquest, so I feel like I can speak with some authority on these trailers, also I sold most of the 45 units that were sold in the States for Conqueror (Safari Trailers).
A deeper look at these raises some questions:

1) Perhaps there is one chassis source for all these SA trailers? OR is this trailer being sourced from Conqueror? The chassis is identical to my Conquest chassis with the swivel offroad ball mount and hand brake (and I mean ... identical!)

2) The utility box is the exact urethan finish (color) as the Conquerors

Is this just a coincidence of am I on to something?

I mean this line of questioning in no negative light as if this is the case ... it is totally cool as they are great trailers. For those that are asking about the ball hitch, on the Conquest and higher models, the ball hitch is a swivel hitch with almost 360 mobility. it is also equipped with surge brakes. (from what I can tell) just like the Conquerors.
Personally, those of us with Conquerors in the States have the older white color models which I much prefer to the new beige color.

Can parts be ordered from you by those of us that want to add some mods to our Conquerors? The latches on the old models are garbage, and I love the single handle levers on your model.

Thanks
Dendy

Yes please! Actually I'd be happy with just a bit of technical support.

Looks awesome, really like all the drawers and the fully deployed tent/awning! And when looking at other trailers on the market I think the price is good. I hope you sell and ton of these!

Hi Dendy,

No, This is not the Conqueror chasis.

Only the trailer tow hitch is sourced from the same manufacturer, being Alko Trailco which is the black tow hitch.
This is the standard tow hitch used by most trailers in South Africa.

The Conqueror chassis is manufactured of pressed steel and bolted together. The Afrispoor Trailer Chassis is manufactured by ourselves, with Heavy duty 5mm Channel ,which is welded with gussets and hot dip galvanized.

The Conqueror is manufactured from electro galv steel and powder coated. The Afrispoor Trailer is manufactured from superior material being 3CR12 Stainless Steel, which is primed,MS Undercoat, and painted with 2k Automotive paint in an Automotive Spraybooth. The actual color is similar and the Afrispoor actually used the color before Conqueror.

The Conqueror is a very nice trailer but NO, they are not the same and not sourced from the same place.

Regarding parts. We will be stocking Afrispoor parts and some may be interchangeable but not all. We are doing a photo shoot of our factory and I will upload pictures soon.

THank You.

Can't wait to see some more pictures and get the information about the what options come standard, and what is additional. I really like the ability to have the large enclosure for long stays.

My Conqueror Base Camp is welded together using 5mm heavy duty C-channel. From the pics posted, the axles appear to be the same as Conqueror too (Alko).
