Afrispoor Off Road Trailer Introduction

Honu

lost on the mainland
for those with the conqueror ? remember they are a mega manufacturing which used to do military contracts and they went into the private sector

I would think a lot of companies have used a similar design as the military trailers that mega (conqueror) had made over the years as a working model

much like certain trailers here in the US look like military trailers ? yet we know they are not the same even though they share common looks

so to me the common parts and build are going to happen as they were copied from working military trailers etc...

I guess to me the common thing is good :) since it seems to be what has worked for the South Africa crowd for years of using trailers like these

and with some of the most rugged terrain and highest peaks in the world Africa is a good testing ground

I have nothing to do with the new company :) I also think he started off on a bad note and was a bit misleading ? but the trailers seem to be a option that many consider on the South African site

but I am happy to have another high quality South African trailer in the US now :) the more people find out about these kinda trailers and the more options we have the better the industry as a whole will be

and maybe we can get some parts that will work for our conquerors here

My Conqueror Base Camp is welded together using 5mm heavy duty C-channel. From the pics posted, the axles appear to be the same as Conqueror too (Alko).

What he said applies to the the Conqueror Conquest as well. Nothing bolted on this chassis.
I take all of this as good endorsements for SA trailers.

That is good to know. Yes, SA Trailers are very well made... they have the right environment to seriously test them.

To answer a few other questions asked here :

We use a Burquip axle which is 50mm square and rated at 2500kg (5500 lbs). The tow hitch is not the same as conqueror or local South African unit we use here(ALKO ) but is a unit from Knott. This can be changed if there are requests for a different type. We are also testing some other couplers and hope to have something at the Overland Expo to show.

Custom colors for the trailer are available and we can match them pretty well, however we cannot do metallic colors. This does add about 2 weeks to the order.

35" Wheels and Rims are available but the units do need to be modified to accommodate them. This is special order on request.

We use 5 bar Checker-plate, not diamond plate.

The trailer use surge brakes and only operate when the vehicles brakes are applied. When the trailer pushes the vehicle after the brakes are applied, the forward motion pushes the tow hitch and the trailer brakes are applied. This is what we call over run brakes. When the vehicle accelerates the tow hitch is pulled again and trailer brakes released. When you reverse, the brakes are released automatically, this is done inside the brake drum.

On the parts... we are going to have parts in stock. Please specify exactly what you are looking for (with dimensions) and I will check if they will fit and make sure we get enough stock. We will also carry the Howling Moon roof top and trailer tents separately.

I hope this answers some questions.

Does howling moon have a canopy for their tent? Just the standard tent on the trailer like the Conqueror's if so how much would it sell for?

The trailer tents are made up of 3 separate modules.
The main roof top tent, the front awning and the side walls.

The current costs are :
Roof Top Tent $2200
The Front Awning $350
The Side Walls $475

We are hoping to get these costs down but it all depends on the volume we can order from the factory.

These are extremely heavy duty tents, featuring :

280 gms/sqm Polyester/cotton ripstop material. Fluoro carbon coated.
100mm thick high density foam mattress.
Insect protected doors and windows.
Apex air vents.
Internal cotton canvas condensation blanket.
Zip detachable rear awning.
Zip detachable PVC groundsheet in main tent.

They take about 20-25 minutes to setup from start to finish for the entire unit with all options. Only about 5 minutes to setup the root top tent part by itself.

Total weight is 290 Lbs and ship from Florida. We have very limited stock on the way but are currently placing a new order. Please contact Afrispoor Off Road Trailers if you are interested or come see us at the Overland Expo in April.

Does the awning attatch to the tent or sit on it? I am wondering if there is a way to add the awning and the side walls to my conquerors existing tent. Do you think that is possible? Do you have any photos of how it attatches?

The awning actually zips on the the main roof top tent with heavy duty zips. Do you know if you have an Howling Moon tent on your Conqueror ? I will upload some photos in a couple of days, we are doing a shoot this week but the rain is delaying things.

The tent just says Conqueror on them. I dont know who they used for them. Some detailed photos would be great.

Sorry, I never got back to you. In the photos you will see a thin condensation blanket on top and inside the tent. These are sewn onto the heavy duty canvas so that it folds out with the tent (no assembly needed). This completely eliminates the condensation.

I have to believe that the tents on the Conquerors are private labelled Howling Moon tents.
Love the set up.
Tremendous.
