Alu-Cab Has Landed In The USA!

I personally only use the wall kit if it is raining heavily and I plan to spend more than one day in the same location......
I'm in total agreement with you, here.

......Honesty I'm not aware of any 270* awning wall kit that has a back wall due to the endless configurations of vehicles and doors it would need openings for. The screening while maybe only keeping some bugs out is primarily to give the wall structure and strength, if it was a opening 4' x 3' the whole wall would loose its shape......
The wall strength explanation makes sense. But as far as providing a back wall, they provide "flaps" at each end of the wall kit to seal to rig, it just seems incomplete to totally ignore a back wall. I have no excuse - I researched before I bought and assumed it would be addressed by Alu-Cab so that those that were looking for a shelter type of wall kit might have a way to seal it better.

.......I will however forward this to Jeremy as he could use a good chop busting from time to time. :)
Rin,
I appreciate it! Here's more reasoning you can forward:

I scoured awning wall kits online and one feature most brag about is:

"These walls attach to your awning, providing privacy and protection from airborne pests and the elements. Attaching the walls is a simple process and they come with their own carrying bag."

Maybe they could rename the kit or at least give fair warning for those assuming it's a standard wall kit. I think a lot of folks purchasing the Shadow Awn & wall kit are upgrading from a smaller awning looking for more room and will be as disappointed as I am.

I'm a bit lost, where did you find the statement you quoted? It is not something I can find on the Alu-Cab site or our dealers.

Also to be fair, there is not a 270* awning that i'm aware of with a full back wall enclosure for reasons I stated above. I'm a bit bummed that you are disappointed, the awning wall kit has had a lot of thought put into it to minimize having to store parts in the truck by including poles that attach to the awn itself and for the wall fabric a super robust carrying bag.

I'm sorry - my bad. It's a quote from a Tepui website - I put the quote there as an example, to show that most manufacturers describe their "wall kits" like this. Bragging about how they can be as snug as a tent. However - not so for the Alu-Cab wall kit. I have no intention of blaming Alu-Cab or OK4WD for my dissapointment - it's my oversite (buyer beware).

I understand the logic of the difficulty of a back wall for a 270* awning. And I appreciate the thought that went into the wall kit. But......my opinion is that it is incomplete - seriously lacking in the "snug" catagory. And for overlanding in inclement weather including wind & snow, and even bug protection in what would otherwise be, great camping weather, it's seriously deficient. One of the reasons I purchased it was for shelter from bugs and bad weather. Even if part of it could be sealed - would be an improvement.

Please don't get me wrong, Rin - the Shadow Awn is awesome!!! The Alu-Cab wall kit option for it.....eh...not so much...

I was expecting a Christmas day email info release for the khaya canper... maybe new years day?

We have been doing a bit of feet dragging... The official news and order opening drop will be January 1st.

Currently our first container is sold out and our next scheduled production cue is not until March due to Europe and the ZA rental market going a bit mad.

I just picked up (and mounted) an Alu Cab Gen3 tent with Shadow awning mounted on my Explorer Canopy.

Anyone have any recommendations/tips and tricks?

Plan on getting a new ladder. Should I get an anti condensation mat?

The Khaya Prime camper is live on the website! :wings: We are still working out details on the Weekender model and plan to have them up in the coming weeks. https://ok4wd.com/brands/alucab/alu-cab-khaya-prime-camper

I think that a bug-proof sub-room would be fine. i.e. I would be very happy with 270º rain and sun coverage, but only a small area that is bug proof.

What is the preferred method to mount the Shadow Awn to a fiberglass truck cap?

I have a 2016 GMC Canyon short bed truck with an ARE fiberglass cap. I want to mount a Shadow Awn and have capacity for a future RTT. My plans are to mount tracks on the roof with an inside structure to support the additional weight. Is there a recommended rack or cargo bars? I would like to do this right the first time.

Thanks.

I have the minds at Alu-Cab brainstorming on this, give us a little time and we will have a solution.

Holy Smokes you could buy a RV for that $!

Hell yeah you could, but can it survive in the harshest environments on earth? ;)

I priced it out and came in at around $27k for my "wants." Similar to a 4 Wheel Camper, and both are equally out of reach for me. But I'm sure there are people who'll be snapping these up. Lots of retired folks with large piggy banks around.

I agree the price is inline with other offerings, if not a bit less than the offerings in Europe. FWC are excellent RV style campers, the Alu-Cab product focus is a bit less homey features and more towards lightweight expedition style camper only checking the boxes that are needed in harsh environments.

If your canopy is a clean slate with nothing on the roof currently, I would suggest these two options.

First:
- Front Runner roof rails https://ok4wd.com/front-runner-universal-track-1800mm
- Alu-Cab 1450mm Load Bars https://ok4wd.com/brands/alucab/1450-load-bar-kit-blk-feet
- Alu-Cab Shadow Awn (Choose Load Bar Mounts) https://ok4wd.com/brands/alucab/alu-cab-shadow-awn

Simple, lightweight and will give you two load bars to secure a RTT.

Second
- Front Runner roof rails https://ok4wd.com/front-runner-universal-track-1800mm
- Front Runner slim line II https://www.frontrunneroutfitters.c...er-slimline-ii-rack-kits-by-front-runner.html
- Alu-Cab Shadow Awn (Choose F/R SLII Mounts) https://ok4wd.com/brands/alucab/alu-cab-shadow-awn

This will give you a roof tray if you plan on installing more than a RTT.

Let me know if you have any questions! :)

Thank you. I think the rack is the way I want to go. Now to start saving my funds.
