Aluminum Versus Steel Front Bumper

I am finally pulling the trigger on a front bumper for my 2004 4Runner. Demello offers both a steel and an aluminum version. The steel bumper is roughly 120 lbs., while the aluminum is about 55 lbs. Has anyone had any problems with aluminum front bumpers? Is the fuel savings actually noticeable? How durable are aluminum bumpers when it comes to typical offroad use? Any input would be appreciated.

I went to website but didn't see it, is it an option that is added? I was interested in another brand that I can't recall but felt that the bumper is physically "thick" and didn't look right. But if it looks roughly the same as the steel bumpers then I would go for it, relieves the need for stiffer springs. Just remember if it gets banged and damaged repair is a bit more difficult..

You should be asking Jason this question. He has good opinions on which you should buy depending on your intended use. ;)

If its an option id probably do aluminum.

Only downside i can see if flexing and stress cracks. But really i dont see it as a big issue

Wow didn't know Dmello had an aluminum version. Interesting... Wow just checked it out $650  MORE than the $1,125 steel version.

I know Relentless Fab offers it for only $150 more than steel! Aluminess it is only $1300 total and is aluminum of course.

there got to be a reason for the extra $$, or at least there better be a reason for the difference between manufacturers... it would be good to find out..
