Am I going to regret this...

Try just doing this part first, I believe it is foolish to drive any vehicle on the highway without sway bars.

Going to swap some stuff around this coming weekend, I'll update when I do. My main goal/purpose for wanting a Land Rover is more for camping/beach driving than hardcore wheeling anyways, so I think that even if I do go back to stock it will still suit my needs perfectly.

There's nothing wrong with driving without sway bars, just drive accordingly. My 91 RRC came from the factory without sway bars and ABS for that matter. That truck was lifted 2 inches and ran 265/75/16 and then 235/85/16 with no problem at all, and as a plus you get more articulation.

I am thinking about converting my truck back to stock this coming up weekend, I really just don't do enough offroading to warrant the aggressive lift and tires, and I am going to be doing quite a bit of traveling this summer, and need the rover to have better highway manners, so this weekend stock springs, shocks, sway bars and stock sized (or close) tires are going back on it.

I really wish I could swing a 2nd vehicle but right now the Land Rover has to be good on road as well as off.

So am I totally going to regret it the first time I take it on some trails?

A picture of how it sits now...

Disco are good stock on most trails. I would just get all terrain tires and call it a day.

If money is tight, just put these sway bars on and try that first. Two sets of tires/rims is a good idea, but they cost money. Think of it this way, of your tires/rims cost you $750 dollar, that is (@$2.00 a gallon, 350 gallons x 10-12 mpg) 3750-4500 miles you could drive for free!!!!

LOL keep telling yourself that.

larger diameter tires almost never gain any MPG

then again no disco on 33's and a rack gets "great" mileage

i consider great mileage to be 16 MPG on the highway...LOL

i onee got 19 MPG when it was stock, but those were favoring conditions...

i'm getting rid of the rack and the 33s are skinny, so hopefully i get a little better MPG. however, it's not something i fret about.

i get 11-12 in the city, but i stopped measuring when i stopped using it as a DD (and i mean i stopped driving daily. this is my ONLY car...). i walk most places, ride the transit, or carpool.

i drive my truck on the weekends and for trips only... so i guess i wouldn't care as much as he!

My advice would be to keep the lift and get less aggressive tires. Those are full offroad tires, right? Maybe get some AT's like Yoko Geolandars. Something that's a little more inbetween. Either that or just get some pure street tires. My opinion is the lift won't make that much difference for road manners unless you're planning on doing some street racing or high-maneuverability stuff. Tires will go a lot further towards gas mileage and drivability than your lift will.

No offense to anyone; but if you were concerned about MPG why would you drive the vehicles we drive?

Michaels has it down; there's generally always a form of alternate transport.

Thread back from the dead, the answer to my original question is..YES! While I didn't convert the Rover back to stock, I did sell it and pick up an 05 Jetta TDI. Even though the TDI gets 50mpg and is dead reliable, it just bores me :|

Next vehicle will absolutly be a 4wd again...just a matter of time now.
