Amsteel Blue Synthetic Rope!!!

dzzz

I'd like to know too. I've got a deuce and a half and a trailer that weigh well over 20,000lbs together. Planning on installing one of the stock PTO winches, and the steel cable (200-250ft) weighs more than the winch itself.

FYI I'm getting a quote on 9/16 which is average breaking of 40,000 lbs

Let me know when they get back to you at the shop. I am in Switzerland on my laptop so I don't have all our price sheets in front of me.

I have the Amsteel Blue line, although I'm sorry to say I did not buy it from Master-Pull, had it for about 3 years, works great.

Wondering though, I noticed it goes square when used and seems to stay that way, I think it is just the way it is woven but not sure. Any ideas?

How long can we expect it to last with no protective cover on the winch and all the UV exposure it gets?:costumed-smiley-007

The line sometimes goes square when it gets hot, but it can also happen if it gets squeezed on the drum. Do you have a protective cover over the first wrap of the drum to make sure that the rope isn't heated up by the drum?

Generally UV isn't a problem for the strength of these ropes, it will cause them to lose their color but let me try to pull up the data on UV and how it affects the fiber tomorrow.

Thanks for the prompt response Alex. No I do not have the protective cover over the first wrap of the drum only the 10 feet or so at the end for abrasion protection.

Looking forward to the UV info.:costumed-smiley-007

Forgot to look up the UV info last week, I'll put it on a list for tomorrow.

So we can't find anything for the UV resistance on this rope, the manufacturer lists it as "good." The coating they use on these ropes is a poly urethane dye that is UV resistant but will fade over time. The fiber itself is very UV resistant, and even though the color is gone it will still be strong.
