lost, but making time
Very exciting news, Robert.
Looking forward to seeing the results.
Sorry to hear about the sponsor issues, but it seems you have made something positive out of that situation.
Yes, please do post the console photos :)

You said you may update the engine to a Ford 3.2, what gearbox and transfer case would you use.

Hello OILWORKER,
I have a few questions of you don't mind. First off I have sent off an email to TIBUS regarding the Portals for a Defender 110 (thanks for all your persistence in getting portals). I hope to hear back from him soon. My first question is in regards to your Hutchinson wheels. I have not been able to locate that exact style of wheel as you have. Being in the US may be the issue. Do you have a part number and do you recall what the cost was? Also with the 35" tall tires are you running the 1,6:1 or the 1,16:1 portals? I would like to run the same combo you are running if it keeps the RPM close to what they were when running stock size tires and no portals. Than you for any help.

Robert run 6,5" Hutchinson wheels for Mercedes G wagen. Normaly we use the 7,5" Hutchinson with the part nr. WO-0491.
Robert has the gear ratio 1,6-1 and he has changed the ratio of the transfercase.
Now we are making only the 1,16-1 ratio portals. This keeps the RPM and power with the bigger wheels almost at the same level like you run the car without portals and stock tires.

How are they holding up off road and on long highway (65 to 70 mph) sustained speeds? Thanks.

I am currently stripping down the truck, properly clean it and then rebuild it the next weeks.

I guess Scott and I will need a proper ride for Scott´s trip around Europe ;-)

Hi Outback,

I have run more about 232.000km in the past 5 years on my prototype 5" bolt-on portals and have had no issues at all.
As I wrote earlier in this thread, I used the first 100.000km to thoroughly test them and even ran them for more than 30.000km without service or oil change.

I´ve bend my axles, after jumping pretty far during the Africa Eco Race 2012 (truck was weighing about 4.2t as I was carrying all the spares for my friend Eric Brandenburg who raced in his Porsche 911 Safari).

I ran into a brick wall at 50mph during that race, too. and tore off lost the whole front, but my prototype bolt-on portals held up and I could continue to the finish at Lac Rose in Dakar and then drive back from Dakar to Hamburg, too.

So long,

Robert

Robert had better have aloooooot of pics to update, whatcha been up to.. I need my RHINO 130 mods fix...I'm like a junkie man..

Sorry mate,

not that many images of the LR130CC-R(hino).
I´ve been too busy with my other work and photography and somehow there was a bad voodoo spell on my broken truck :-(

The latter is resolved now and I am back at it.
Cleaning out my little fab shop now and stripping the Rhino, but I am also spending a lot of time drawing and designing my vision of the future Defender.
I´ve made sketches the past years but sometime at the end of last year I decided to take the next step and draw it all in CATIA V.
It´s looking great already and there will be a few new parts, too, which I´ll add to my truck this summer, too.

So, I hope there will be enough images for you to look through pretty soon ;-)
