Anyone build a DIY RTT with a Yakima Rocket Box or the like as a structure?

Seems like the shell would work great. Just put in a platform to sleep on and sew your own netting and velcro it to the box. Open and you have a RTT version like the hard shells? Am I crazy?

Looks a bit snug with a 24" wide mattress. For just one flexible person with a large bladder it would work I think.

I recall a story of a former Wall Street banker with a six figure income getting rid of everything, quitting his job, and traveling to South America in a Jeep TJ with a rocket box on top made into a comfy little roof top tent.

are the boxes structurally sound? the only one i've used was a Thule belonging to prior employer. open it seemed a little loosey-goosey, but filled and clamped shut it was strong enough to carry, well, clothes. i've seem them whiz by on the turnpike and they were all teeter-tottering on the racks. maybe set too close together? i dunno about this one.
