I had an early 60's Apache similar to that for years. It pulled/folded out on both sides and had 2 double beds, storage, etc. Aluminum roof and was tiny and lightweight. I pulled it all over with my FJ40 for years.
We had one of those (maybe the same) that came through the family. Ours was a 1965 Apache Eagle, light blue body and HUGE green (very heavy duty) waxed canvas tent and awning. Even had screen and solid canvas walls that zipped in the awning. Inside was just a huge cabinet that lifted and two beds. None of this fancy fridges, tables and stoves like now. But it was light, even as a young teenager I could lead it around by the tongue.

My grandparents bought it new and my family took it on vacation behind the Chevy Celebrity wagon we had. We went all over the place, Washington D.C., the Grand Canyon, Mt Rushmore, Smoky Mountains, etc. My wife and I inherited it in about 1996 and didn't have any place to put it, so we sold it for $500 not knowing what the heck to do with it. Turns out there's a whole cult following of the things. Kick myself every summer for selling it.

Here's some more links for Apache stuff.

"It's so rare, I really don't wanna mess it up"

I think as long as you do a quality job, using modern techniques, I don't think it will make a major diference to its value.

and any way do you intend selling it..or using it ?

For me as long as modifications are done properly, in line with the looks and design of the original, I don't find them an issue.

Even antiques accept changes and updates/repairs as long as they align with the original construction.

Now if you sawsal it......pop rivet on some flattened oil cans, add wheel arches made out of shower rail......

the answer is no:pROFSheriffHL:

Cool purchase.

Mod? Not much you can do with height as the canvas (door area) is set for the box height correct?

Unforchantly, you are correct there. I been looking at the the air ride design suspensions and thought I might be better off using somethiing like that. That way I could flatten the bags and drop it to the org height. Then I'd have to out board the tires to clear the body which would get into the way of the doors. At this point I think I'm just going to put the wider tires on it and use it. It's not like I'll be going over the Rubicon with it. The areas that we camp, at the trail heads around here, it could handle stock.
As for hack and beat mods that won't happen in my Garage lol. If it doesn't look profesional It's not leaving. :D

Very Cool! Apache has built a ton of great trailers, even though they are no longer around they have a great following(support) and you can still get parts pretty easy!

Funny there was a flatty that looks like yours for sale near my friends house last night. Not as perdy as yours but it looked like a nice start.

That's what I been telling the wife. It looks even worse when it's behind the seven sittin on 35's. I won't want to put it behind my Scrambler on 37/39's. I'm perdy much shafted on how large a tire I can run on it, since the tent folds out and drops to the ground. The only option I been thinking is if I go up in height, using the orginal canvas, I'll have to dig a couple holes for the tires to sit in and drop the height of the trailer. I plan on having a new canvas made, eventually, that will alow it to be lifted and then I'll probally run 30's on it. If I go that large I'll have to outboard the wheels for sure. I am planning some stuff for it soon. I got to many irons in the fire to go hog wild just yet, lol..

Perhaps instead of drooping suspensions, dug holes, or new, longer canvas a simple platform for the existing floor to sit on could be built? Would get the floor up out of the dirt & muck. Getting the floor clean on my TrailBlazer can be a challenge, having it up out of the dirt would be very welcome.
I note that most of the clamshell trailers have this sort of feature, the lid doesn't lay flat on the ground.
