Passage One – New Mexico to Agua Prieta
I’m sure it’s been said before, but I have a thing for small towns that mark their territory with a big letter on the side of a hill. Oftentimes, they are timeless
Or at least operate on at a slower pace than PHX
As we passed through Douglas, I was again impressed by the mixture of old architecture this southernmost border town contains. Knowing we would be visiting town again, we hustled down the dirt track in an effort to find that elusive boundary marker. In the planning stages of this journey, the intent was to drive within a ½ mile or so of the AZ/NM/Mex border and hike to the actual location of this boundary intersection. I wasn’t sure what type of monument would be there, if any. A short hike over broken terrain to find out would be an ideal way to kick this thing off we thought. However, conditions on the ground were a little different than the maps I had consulted.
