I've got 5 inches of fresh snow on my back deck just in the last few hours and you're dipping in the lake?

Please consider this before you post next time.

That's so awesome Les!!!!! Im actually jealous your heading out there without us! I'll be stuck here at the office. Cant wait to see your pics

Anyways, to pay for the fee's there is a box at the 4-S Beach Camp. No biggie, you can pop a check or cash in there. The rangers come by every once a while. They take your stuff to the bank on wednesdays.

MAKE SURE TO BRING MOSQUITO SPRAY!!!!!!! The last night/morning we were there we got hit hard!!!! I dont know what the deal was, but it sucked really bad.

Remember, pack it in pack it out and don't gather wood.

Make sure the get the heck out of there by wednesday. I heard this like a couple hundred kayakers/canoers coming down the river and will overflow your camp that day!!!!!!! (we had a group of 20 stop and i thought that was a lot!)

One last thing, don't leave any food out. The racoons are very very smart there.

Picacho ! Bug juice Yes!

That was the answer we needed! In regards to bug juice we had the need handed to us last summer while we were in Idaho on our yearly trip. The wife came down with chills.numbness in her fingers, vomiting.Packed up headed to sun valley emerg room. West Nile infection ! Took 3 plus weeks to get back to normal
Have always been lacks on bug juice no more. The nurse in hosp. told us 25+people died in Idaho last year from it.Did not believe her,but after looking it up she was spot on!
Also just read that they have trapped mosqutios in the river area that have tested positive for West Nile,So your reminder is noted!
We use a double Hobie pedal kayak so we will let you know how it handles going up river!
Thanks again for info.

Side Trips

Some other things you might want to check out in the area if you get bored of the river :REExeSwimmingHL: .

About 5 miles south of Indian Pass Rd on Olgilby Rd there is the ghost town of Hedges. It is directly east of Gold Ranch Rd. It has a couple of standing walls left, several foundations, a cemetary, and some round metal tanks.

In the Park itself, Bear Canyon is a nice, short side trip. Also the Picacho Mine stamping mill (a short hike along the river), and the river overlook trail that follows the old mine train route.
At Lonesome Knoll, local custom is that you bring a rock and add it to the mound.

South of the Park itself, along Picacho Rd towards Yuma, there are a few easy trails. Most of them are to the west of Picacho Rd. One of the trails takes you through some rolling hills where people have spelled out their names in rocks.

Even futher south along Sidewinder Rd, I have been told by a BLM Ranger, there are geoglyphs. I have not found them yet, but have not looked that hard either.
