Bad Engine knock time for replacement?

as for pricing i got engine for $600 but make sure you know what engine to get, because they have couple different 3.5L engines for these trucks. and labor should've been $550. For some reasons my mechanic could not commit so i spent $100 for engine hoist and pulled it myself. Not hard just tedious, make sure you take pictures as many as you can of areas you work on so it's easier to reassemble

I'm a big fan of labeling plastic baggies with numbers and names of parts to hold the fasteners. This way I reverse the order of installation. In the pictures below, you can see my system. Top left is disassembly order. Top right is reassembly order. Lower right is socket size and a picture of the part from the factory service manual including torque specs.

Pretty freaking handy.

I have been working too much to even pop the hood on the montero. Winter is here now with some good snow storms blowing through Colorado. I do not need he vehicle to get to work so I'm thinking it will just sit until summer. I really like the truck and grabbed something out of the backseat last night and it made me miss driving it. I am going to pick up a new to me 2003 ford F150 4x4 4.6L super cab with 100,000 miles and super clean and well taken care of next week because the price is right. $free.99. It is from my father in law who has had it since new and takes meticulous care of his trucks and keeps them like new. This takes the rush out of fixing the montero. I plan on later researching a rebuilt engine and getting the thing built up. It is real clean and everything but the motor is great. I feel like it could be like new again with a new motor. the steering and suspension feel tight and firm like I imagine they would when they were new. The only other thing besides the motor is the hood paint is beginning to fade a bit

I was thinking about putting it on jack stands to keep the brand new 33 x 10.50 r15 BFG AT's from flat spotting if it sits in one spot for too long. Is that a concern? should I take the weight off of them?
