Best place to buy shocks?

Yes, OEM's are available but $$$$ so be prepared for it. Will probably be $1200+ for just the shocks, not including installation but they should be easy to install and IMHO, worth it.

I just assumed the gen 2.5 shocks are the same as the gen2, but i guess theyre not.

Plus they're a lot cheaper than the shocks for my Gen 2. Good find on this site.

For my 96 SR they're $255 ($370 msrp) for the fronts and $157($223 msrp) for the rears.

"Shock adjustable rate"

I'm probably going to check their return policy and order these just to see what they are...

"Adjustable rate" could simply mean it has progressive valving (like most other shocks). From the price point, I'd bet money it's on par with the KYB Gas-A-Just. It's certainly NOT the SR's electronically actuated shocks @ $60.

I would also think the Gen2.5's shocks fit the Gen2. I know on my Gen1, the shocks I used were listed for a Chevy 2500 or something like that. I just had to change the bushing on the bottom with my stock ones. Shocks aren't as specific as you might think. There are probably a few applications that work on our vehicles that we haven't discovered yet!

I know what you mean. My friend has a Isuzu VehiCross. Being basically a two door Trooper, it has nearly the same suspension set up in front as we do. It came from the factory with great remote-reservoir shocks from KYB. There is a company that rebuilds and revalves them, and I was very tempted to to see how close they come to fitting. The shock on the VehiCross is not within the A-arms like it is on ours, but I think it would fit. It might need to be inverted. A used set and the revalving would run about $450 I think, and that was over budget. It was tempting though, especially after driving that VehiCross. Wow, those handle amazingly well for a 2 ton SUV, and his is lifted with 32s.

Be CAREFUL with parts.com... They're just a middle man. They had the best price for a set of OEM Montero backup lights (the little ones on the bumper, mine are broke). They "estimated" shipping to be $11, which was a little high, but I was OK with it. When the final invoice came in, the price for shipping had jumped to $78.

$78 to ship two 4 inch lights... FedEx ground.

I called to make sure it was a mistake, and the arrogant snot on the end of the line told me the $11 quote was "just an estimate" and then he informed me that, if I'd bothered to read the entire rules and regulations on their site, I'd see that shipping prices are subject to change. I told him I was OK with a change of 15% or even or 20%, but that an increase of 600% was unreasonable and I'd dispute the charges with my credit card company. After a pretty ridiculous conversation I convinced him to cancel the order, but it was a real hassle. I'd stay FAR away from parts.com if I was you.

Just google them on Mercedes forums. After the fact (of course) I found multiple people that had similar issues to mine. Jacking up the shipping prices after you place the order, especially on large items like bumpers and fenders.

I dunno - there are "Standard" and "Adjustable Rate" versions. Shipping, according to their T&C's won't be more than 15% of total order, which isn't cheap by any means, but considering the possibility these may be the real deal. It also states that if the mistake is theirs, they cover the shipping expenses. So I'll include my VIN so they have no excuse and order with a credit card. If they try any ********, they'll get a chargeback. I'm in ecommerce, and the thought of dealing with a chargeback makes me feel ill... Other than time, there's nothing to lose...

When I get some funds for this project soon, I'll give this a shot and let everyone know how it went...
