Best Thermos ?????????

I've got my grandfather's 35+ year old Alladin stainless (inside and out).. Preheated it w/hot tap water while making a pot of coffee last spring (first time I've used it since I got it). We drove from Memphis to Gulf Shores (9 hour trip).. I had one cup out of it, when we hit Gulf Shores I opened it to dump it and the coffee was still steaming..

It's a pretty hefty thermos.. Looks like it'd hold nearly a gallon, but I'd be surprised if it was a liter..

yes those are the Primus ones. they also do a nice food flask. saw it up in Leeds a few weekends back, should have bought it Its not in the same store down here in Bristol!

My Primus came today, very nice.
For being .75 liters, the bottle is big.

I still wish I could find one with a lid you can drink directly out of like my old Boeing one.
This one has a pour feature when you push a button, but you can not sip through it, you must pour into the cup.
Then you have the mess of cleaning up the cup before you screw it back onto the bottle.

With hot chocolate, that could get messy.

I use a Thermos ROCK model which keeps my coffee hot during my 12hr ER night shifts & on my ski trips to Wintergreen Mountain. it has sat in the Rover in 2 degree skiing weather for 8+ hours & still had hot coffee to offer :coffeedrink:

The key, as mentioned by others, is to pre-heat it prior to filling.

I particularly like the ROCk due to the cap which doubles as an insulated drinking cup, and the sturdy solid handle.

I found under my father-n-laws sink a Stanley and it was pretty old and had style so I bought one myself thinking I would keep it for years like he did until I turned it over and it was made in Chins with everything else...

So gave it away and found an older one on eBay made in Nashville TN... So I bought it and so far it's kept hot coffee for a couple hours because I can't not drink it all in more than a couple hours. I do know it keeps soup hot till lunch time with no issues too...

Has anyone ran across a good one around 20 oz or so that you can drink directly from it?
I use to have a nice metal Boeing one (do not know who made it) that I ruined the top on while trying to clean it.
I basically melted it

Anyways, you unscrewed the cup from it and pushed a button on top that then let you pour into the cup or drink right from it.
Push the button again and it sealed.

You could lay it on its side without the cup on it and it would not leak.
Looking for something like that so I can drink hot chocolate at work during snow removal days.

Looking on Amazon now, then maybe Cabelas later.

Check out Klean Kanteen. I got the wide mouthed insulated 20oz for Christmas and I really like it. I got a "cafe" lid that operates like a coffee mug and it is "splash" proof. It will leak if you lay it on its side. I also got a sport cap to go along with it. That complelely seals it. It keeps my coffee very hot for over 6hrs and I didnt even pre heat it. For long trips I use a traditional thermos but this fits in my trucks cup holders which is great!

I've used these for the last 5 years and they work very well. My Gf actually doesn't like it because the coffee stays "too hot".
