Freaking sweet find! That's exactly what I've been needing. Those temps look much better than what I've been expecting!

Hey Scott! When are you planning on leaving? I am asking my aunt that lives in Las Cruces, NM if there are any good camping spots near by. She would definately know.

Let me know.

Sometime mid- to late-Wednesday. You? Let's definetely try and caravan the thing though you'll detest my speed (lack thereof).

I was thinking the same. Give me a ring when we get closer and we'll iron out the nitty gritty.

I have a CB as well as an FRS base system (good range).

BTW, local weather girl said there's a cold, cold front coming down next week. We'll have to keep an eye on it.

I'm fighting serious allergies resulting in congestion, cough, and all the usual symptoms. I'm doing my best to get over it and am still a "go".

Claritin D is a beautiful thing. Just make sure you take it in the morning, or you'll be up all night. I hope you feel better soon. :sunny:

That one that Scott posted shows good new too.

Yeah, I've been emptying the medicine cabinet. For some reason Claritin didn't do it for me the other day.

Bad news

It looks like I'm out of this trip folks; work schedule is not favorable at this moment!

Thanks and have a great trip.

Scott,

Please count me in for the trip.

I am a new member, but I’m not new to Big Bend. This will be my 7th trip there in the last 10 years or so. I love this place.

I used to hike everywhere I camped, but when I got serious about photography, I just didn’t enjoy carrying all that gear, plus all the photo equipment. In addition, I found that at the end of the day a cold beer and steak just seemed better than warm Gatorade and dehydrated food.

So, I’m looking forward to meeting new folks with similar interests and learning more about how each of you manage your vehicle-based travels.

Here’s a few photographs from my trip there last April.

Cheers,

Tony

Want to camp out in NM still? My aunt lives in Las Cruces, NM and recomended City of Rocks State Park. Located 34 miles south of Silver City on US HWY 180 and just north of Deming, NM. Although it looks more like a midwest style car camping, but an option.

I will not be caravaning back though... headed to Houston afterwards..

I checked that place out City of Rocks and it looks really cool, but it's 70 miles of backtrack, and only 3.5 hours from Tucson, leaving us at least 7 hours on Thu morn. Any suggestions further down the line?

Wil, how early on Wed are you able to leave?

EVERYONE: Would you please PM me your full names and home #s, mobile phone #s, and emails? I'll put together a list for distribution (for families at home too to have). Right now, we're planning on meeting before 12 noon on Thu at Study Butte. Please let me know if you'll be meeting us there, or at the Ranger Station? I will be on the 2m frequencies listed and we'll also be on CB channel 2 and FRS Ch2.

EL PASO FOLKS: Can anyone suggest camping areas south of El Paso? Most of TX is so private I'm finding a hard time locating a reasonable & safe spot.
