Pulled the trigger on a ComeUp DV9S winch. Should have it in a couple weeks. And as a bonus, my PrInsu Designs Roofrack is going on the truck on Friday! Can't wait.

We were in Longmont over the weekend in my new 80. We drove out to pick up a new puppy from a breeder there. Longmont seems like a cool town. Here's the new pup.

Cute puppy :) It was a nice weekend. I really like Longmont. I live on the very southwest part towards Boulder. Very close to the National Park and the Indian Peaks Wilderness. Boulder County has lots of open space and great work options.

But I head to Utah a lot. Heading there twice in the next month so ...

Cool! I read up on them and the breed has a very interesting story. Perfect dog for a family in the mountains!

Yeah. Agreed. Just lost our dog of 12+ years and starting to think about a puppy.

It'll be interesting seeing this mounted on a non-winch bumper (that's the last one I recall seeing on your rig). Assuming a bumper swap or a bumper chop will be happening (unless I've missed your bumper upgrade).

The bumper was actually a winch bumper originally. Right now it's completely open in the center. Mounting should be simple enough. Just need to add a mounting plate between the frame horns. Planning on 1/4" plate for mounting and then just cut a slot for the fairlead.

Great looking truck Adam.

My dad is currently in the process of purchasing a 95 LC80 with lockers as well. Can't wait to get my hands on it. So far it's all stock :wings:

That's cool. These trucks are really capable even in stock trim. Mine is probably way overbuilt for most overland type needs for most people here on the forum, but it fits the way I am using the truck and I already had all the components from my last 80 so it was an inexpensive build for me. My total investment at this point is >$7000 which is pretty good for a fully built 80 series IMO. I hope your dad doesn't feel a need to do a bunch of mods to the new 80, unless of course they are legitimately needed. A very mild build on these trucks will get you LOTS of places.

Not to belabor the point of your old 80 but, what caused you to cut ties with it and find a new specimen? I remember you mentioning a wiring issue. I assume since the new owner is talking about a V8 swap and at 250k the engine was tired. Anyway just curious how you decided to draw the line and start semi-fresh.

Always enjoy following your builds here and over at TW.

Actually even at 250K miles the engine isn't *that* tired. I believe compression is still decent. But honestly, with the amount of miles we planned to be putting on it in the near future it was a matter of doing some repairs and probably a motor refresh, or starting with a truck with fewer miles. As we evaluated the cost, it was dramatically cheaper to go with the new truck. 1FZ motor rebuilds are commonly $7K or more for a proper rebuild. In addition to any of the other small repairs it would have needed. Also, my old cruiser was an "oddball" '93 that had no airbags, drum rear brakes and a semi-float rear axle. None of that was a big deal, but moving forward I preferred to find a slightly newer truck with airbags, ABS, disc brakes, full-float rear and factory lockers.
Since I had all the necessary parts I could pull from the old cruiser and add to a new one, there was no additional cost beyond purchase price to mod a new truck to the point I wanted it to be. So I was probably looking at somewhere between $7-10K to "refresh" my '93 to the condition I wanted it to be in for long-term use going forward. The new 80 cost me $5k and all the mods have either been free as take offs from the old cruiser or have been at essentially no cost through trades of other parts. So financially I've come out ahead and have a truck with better components with the brakes, axles and lockers. And the sale of the old cruiser allowed me to recoup some of the cost of the new 80 so it's been a very inexpensive way to upgrade the truck.
.
But since the old 80 was just sold this past Sunday and delivered to the new owner on Tuesday, he has since diagnosed any immediate issues to get it running and in the end just needed a new igniter to get running again, and it's now driving around in Colorado and the new owner is working on getting it registered. Not bad for a truck that has been parked and not driven for 3 years. Seems like a win-win for both parties.

Really appreciate the details BR. I would agree it seems like both side won. Details like this just add to a build IMO. Keep it up!

I'm stoked beyond words at how well my new PrInSu Designs roofrack turned out for the Land Cruiser. Mine was the first one Zach Scott has built for an 80 series so there was a bit of iteration along the way but man it is exactly like I had hoped. Love it. Now it's time to throw the Tepui Tent up there. This is a major photo dump since this is a rack for Cruisers that hasn't been on the market 'til now, and I'm sure there will be questions. So I'll post as many photos as possible to show details that will hopefully address most of the questions.
