Bugged out of Cedar Mesa

Camped on Cedar Mesa May 26-31. Great campsite overlooking Comb Ridge and Wash, looking south over the San Juan River, Black Mesa, Shiprock, and east to Sleeping Ute and over to the San Juan Mtns. Great hikes and found 3 new ruins. Bad news is that the no-see-ums were unbearable. We left two days early. I counted over 50 bites! We just got tired of dealing with them and left . If anyone is going down in the near future, take lots of DEET. We had some very highly rated natural repellent that didn't deter the little bastards at all.
Only one pic of a little buzz worm on Comb Wash Road on the way out yesterday.

What is the no-see-um season? They really bug me :)

I ran into them in late May on the AZ Strip a few years ago.

We ran into them at GSENM last month, Too many beautiful bugless places out there, we skedaddled after one night.

Not sure Dan. We have been down there dozens of times and this is the first time we encountered them. I surmise that it was because of the recent rains and standing water that was unseasonably late this year.
They really bug me too. I still have a few itching bites after 10 days!
