Henry-After last year, I thought you'd build up that truck for Rubicon!

I saw Christo is planning a UZJ swap into an 80. That wpould be the best of both worlds.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing the Melon on one of our runs.

Ha! After that trip, I was convinced that the Rubicon would chew up a UZJ100 and this time I'm planning on spending more money on improvements than repairs! I wanted to go with you guys to DV, but I couldn't commit to having the 'Melon ready and I didn't want to take someone else's slot! Maybe in '09...

OK, I placed the order for tires today. Five BFG 285/75R16, the version with the "E" load rating. $187 each at Costco with a $15 per tire coupon and that includes mounting and balancing and road hazard. I couldn't find them cheaper anywhere else. Should be in next week, just in time to receive the new lug nuts. I'm hoping I won't need spacers on this one.

When you were looking for wheels, did you find any with the correct bolt pattern, but different backspacing?

I read the post on the wheel search. YOu were searching for steel, with correct hole pattern and stock backspacing.

So; the only steel wheels with the correct hole pattern (and any backspacing), are the factory wheels, issued in other countries?

Currently available in the US, without going full-custom, *yes*.

Photog, I have ordered wheelspacers (adapters) in the 5x150 size before. They had to be custom and therefore cost more than typical 6x5.5 patterns. Toyota also makes steel wheels (for overseas markets) in the same bolt pattern but in a zero offset for their 105 series as well as a 16x6 split rim. If you are looking for custom steel wheels, try the Stockton wheel company.

We use wheel adaptors, not spacers. You can source the wheel adaptors from several places now without custom ordering them:

I've also seen them on ebay.

As far as custom steel wheels go, Stockton Wheel in Sacramento can make them.

Both of the links are for wheel SPACERS, not ADAPTERS. Are these the links you intended to post?
These are the same spacers I use on my 4Runner; but my pattern is different.

Got a bunch of stuff on my plate, but I still wanted to post some pics of the 'Melon with the new wheels and tires. Next up is the OME lift, which is sitting in my study, then custom sidebars.
