If you found the 4Runner suited your needs and you have little or no need for the bed then stick with it! I struggled with much the same but, decided the bed is too valuable for my needs. The best of Luck!

I also hunt and have basically destroyed my 4runner's interior by putting recently shot deer and pigs in the back. We heat are house with wood and hauling it around in the 4runner is also problematic.
Have a dog who recently had diarrhea in the 4runner.
Fairly certain this guy would find the bed "too valuable" as well!![]()
I'm not a Chevy guy, but my friend just bought a sweet Extra cab V-6 4X4 Colorado. It even has a rear electric locker.
Thanks for all the input everyone. I went to the dealership this week with my shortboard and two pairs of skis. Got some weird looks from the salespeople trying to fit my gear in the beds of various trucks. I could just barely get my 6'2" inside a bag stuffed into the bed so that it would fit with a topper on. Wife liked driving the short bed better as well so we are going to go with that option.
Now on to another important issue. How do I run a rooftop tent AND still carry longboards? (9 feet long).
RTT's are not too hard to take off/on, but that is not something I would want to do weekly. Depending on how its mounted, its more than likely just a few nuts/bolts. I'm sure one could make a quick release bracket which may save a little time, but then again you need to make sure you have room to store that beast in the garage first.
CaliCamper... if you dont file a complaint, the SAO probably isn't bored enough to go out looking for issues. More complaints, the more likely it'll get addressed quicker.
