That's a great looking Kurierwagen

Have fun!

Haven't heard that term before....I've heard of Kubelwagen but not Kurierwagen. I need to read up on the history of these Things.

Kewl type 181. It just needs to shed some stickers and a small adventure trailer w/ a RTT now.

Ya know....that really made me think about towing a small trailer! Unfortunately it only has the original 1600 engine and it's a bit limited in power. If I ever upgrade to a 1776 or 1835 there'll be enough power for a trailer. BTW, It'll shed the stickers fairly soon!

Nice thing! I've seen some of those built up so you could hardly tell what they were. I've heard that they can be quite capable off-road:coffee:!

Yup they can be very capable off road within reason. My plan is to make the suspension more comfortable (better shocks) and not go too crazy with modifications. In time bodywork and paint.....but for now I'll work the bugs out and just drive it.

Today I went through the carb and made adjustments to get rid of a slight hesitation, but then the brakes started pulling to the left and made a vibrating sound. OK....One problem solved....another popped up!

Sweet Thing! Good to see another Thing on ExPo. I still have my '74 which was my first car when I was 16. It was my father's primary car for years, winter and summer and still is his alltime favorite. We would load it up with three people, gear, 2 dogs and pull a popup camper with it for our UP adventures as a kid. It did fine and he still managed to pass traffic with it overburdened lime that. It never failed to surprise people with traction offroad and was one of the only vehicles that could regularly get into our hunting cabin in the fall which frustrated the he'll out of my uncle and his suburbans. Haha Anyway, great trip and pics and enjoy that Thing.

Sorry I thought they had the 1800cc with the twin solex set up. I bet you could find a light trailer around that would compliment the clean flat lines of the Thing. What ever you end up doing to it keep us posted on the build, many of us are fans. BTW Did the Iltis type 183 have a small trailer that you could convert?

That was a great story! Especially about frustrating your uncle with the Suburbans. Do you have a pic of your 74? Post it if you do!

I still like this idea and having a trailer that has the same style (especially the sides) would be pretty darn cool. A trailer like could probably be easily made....OK maybe not easily.....:sombrero:
The Ilitis is a very hard to find vehicle! I considered one of those, but never found one for sale. Sorry I have no idea about the trailers on those.

Sorry for the delayed response, I haven't been online a whole lot lately and am getting caught up a bit. Here is a shot of my '74. It is sitting, neglected in the garage. Hasn't been titled for the street since '93 and awaiting for me to get my life together enough to start dismantaling it. I don't know if I van save the body, might have to search for a solid replacement tub to be realistic.
