Calico, Intergration and Giant Rock

Just got home from a weekend trip to the high desert here in Southern California. A fellow member from the board Ringin10 joined us as his very first 4 wheel drive adventure. He did a great job.

All I have to say is WOW! This was such an awesome & fun weekend!

Giant Rock is a hoot...that piece hasn't been laying on the ground all that long either. I remember when it was still attached. I also remember a trip 4-5 years ago rolling up to Giant Rock at about 1:30 in the morning on our way back from Johnson Valley to a friends house in Landers....there was a full on rave going on complete with a DJ running off a generator. Pretty weird scene to say the least......

Yep! The giant rock is said to be the 'biggest free-standing boulder in the world". That piece broke back in Feb 21, 2000. Rumor has it... the huge rock split nearly crushed an RV. Some say the break occured due to the heat from a bonfire that burned next to the rock the night before. And yes, its not a good spot to camp. It has become a very popular rave location.. attracting as many as 3,000 partiers. I will have more info on it as soon as I finish my trip report.

Cause it's not in Calico. It's near Landers, CA. We hit it up on the way back.

Here's our campsite Saturday night. So beautiful. Didn't see a soul the whole time except one jeep and that was it.

Actually, Dixie belongs to Dave (SoCalFJ). This was her first camping trip/adventure.
