Calling home (or a tow truck)

We can dig into the details, but if you're generally behaving, this isn't going to be a problem. I usually ask myself if I'm calling to exchange money for goods or services. If not, all is good.

Seems like a natural extension to Autopatch would be to link autopatch repeaters using VOIP/Internet to another autopatch repeater to allow for long distance calls. Similar to IRLP, only for voice... a la Vonage. Anyone doing this that you know of?

If I understand you correctly, Yaesu has the WIRES-II System that does this.

Thanks for the reply. I think that device is a little bit different than what I was considering as it doesn't include VOIP.

Basically, what I am after is to be able to use the equivilent of a corporate phone network that links worldwide offices together via VOIP on top of the Internet (TCP/IP or UDP/IP). It is just a simplificaton of what can be done now with Autopatch and repeater linking. Call into a repeater, patch in, dial a number, the autopatch software would then decide which "office" (or repeater in this case) has a phone line that is local to that area and route the call through that repeater using VOIP.

It would require the repeater to have an internet connection in addition to a local phone line to work.

Using the Yaesu device, one could just get on the internet and run a VOIP device in the truck though.
