I have the Sonoran Steel System 7.2 Suspension on my 2002 4Runner -
About: 2.5" Front & 3" Rear.

I currently have on the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO Tires 265/75R16.

My question is can i go up to the next size BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM 255/85/16?

WIll they fit without any rubbing? I live in PA and wheel spacers are illegal. I have attached a few photos with my current tires.

With 255/85/16 tires can i get away without re-gearing?

Some photos of my current tires and the space i have right now -

Yes they will fit. Around town they will be fine, if you run hills you will want to regear.

Tacoma experience

I will preface that this comment is with respect to 2nd gen Tacomas, not the runner...

I have a 2006 Taco TRD offroad with armor (slider/bumper), camper shell, and a litany of heavy stuff that rolls with me all the time. I have the 255/85/16 Cooper disco ST tires and I have the stock TRD suspension.

For comparison, my buddy has a 2007 Taco TRD with a 3" spacer lift, with 285/75/17 BFG AT tires.

The tires on my truck rarely rub, (nor did they prior to armor) and the rubbing that I have experienced typically occurs when hitting a heavy bump while turning (generally a ditch/waterbar). I never hear it rub on the pavement.

In contrast, my buddy's truck rubs frequently during city driving (ie making a right turn on a green light).

The 255 tires will likely clear better than the 285s on your runner (though I hear the BFGs are a bit taller than the Discos). The 255 tires are fantastic.... I will be buying a second set of them...likely before I consider a lift. Get them and I don't think you will be disappointed.

My 255s rub on the bolts for my limited flares when the suspension is completely compressed. The 255s are narrower than your 265s and will clear your ucas fine.

SS1.2, 255/85/16.. No rubbing, stock UCA and wheels. Anything that rubbed was plastic and cut, no big deal.. As I recall, under flex and turning the tires rubbed on the bottom of the front bumper. Went away when I got the ARB. I think you will be fine.. oh, and no need to regear unless you want to crawl over something IMO.
