Hey guys.
I currently have a jeep which is setup for more hardcore offroad, which I hardly ever do anymore, and it would take a lot of work and money to get it into expo shape. It would need to be lowered a couple of inches with new wheels, new tires, a sway bar, a couple of shocks, and a new engine. It would probably also require a roof top tent as it's too small to sleep in.
I also recently purchased an '05 short bed crew cab SRW powerstroke F350, which is in immaculate condition.
I really have three options which I'm trying to decide between.
1. dump another 5k or so into the jeep to make it an expedition rig. After all of that it will still be a little small but would most likely be very trail worthy. This will also take a lot of work which i don't really have time for anymore. With the engine, tires, wheels, RTT, and suspension the jeep will probably cost another 4-5k.
2. Sell the jeep and pimp out the F350 with a lift, 35" tires, and a pop up camper. The down side being that the F350 is in great shape and I don't want to destroy it offroad. It would however be the most dependable of all of the options. probably 6-7k minus what I can get for the jeep.
3. Sell the Jeep and buy a cheap already lifted full size bronco. Add a RTT if needed and then use it as is. Eventually upgrade to a solid front axle. benefits of being cheap and not having to care about the body. probably medium reliability. Better offroad than the f350, but not as good as the jeep. I imagine for starters and stock axles/TTB the bronco would come in around 5-6k minus what I can get for the jeep.
I guess I'm looking for opinnions from the full size crowd. Is the F350 too big to take offroad without damaging it? I'm mostly going to be on forest service roads, but sometimes those roads have a few sections which are more difficult.
