Chainsaw question

Depending on where you roll, a chainsaw is definitely warranted. We used to take SEVERAL saws with us on the UP, just to ensure good progress. Small saws have their place, but one THAT (12"Echo) small gives me pause. If you do swap to a bigger bar, you're at twice that much ($150), once you have a spare chain. At that price point, there are better options. My personal preference is toward midsize Husqvarna saws, but I do miss my old Mac Timber Bear.

I carry a 20" Stihl Farm Boss with me often. I've cut 12" pines with a felling axe in 10 minutes, but the Stihl will cut a 24" hardwood into a few movable logs in less time. Remember that the bar comes off, so storage requirements are really only the space needed for the motor. The blade can be stored flat, in a sheath if necessary. I keep my Stihl on a cheap walmart rubber floormat that catches any oil drips.

18" bar I prefer husky over stihl.... but my employer buys stihl.. it should be illegal to sell a saw with out chaps and helmet with muffs and face guard... retire saws without clutches or brakes.

Personally I typically carry a small hand saw over my power saw...

especially since you can get quality ones (both chaps, and helmet/face guard/ear protection) for well under $100

I like this style with the screen because I sweat like a pig when I'm working and anything with a plastic lens fogs up (which makes it devilishly hard to see where you're cutting)

Stihl 026 with a 16" bar for me. I've had it since the ice storm of '97, never let me down. PPE is a must as well.
I recently acquired a Husky with a 16' bar and it' lighter, starts quicker, but has less torque than the Stihl. I started to bring the Husky with me due to it's lightness/quicker starts and I considered it a "consumable" if something happened to it as the Stihl is my money maker and also cuts up my own firewood.

Check out the Farm boss....
It is the one I own and run. Has not failed me yet.
it is a great do it all saw. Again sure it is going to be bit harsh on the front end when you are spending money.
but it is an investment. It comes with a 20 inch bar but you can also run an 18 or a bigger one.
it is the closest thing i have worked with that is a good do it all jack of all trades.
fairly light weight, lots of power, but not too much. I have dropped more then one +20 inch tree with it. Just have to plan the cut.
It is light enough to use on the really little stuff while you are just clearing things
