You mentioned Tewksberry and CO? Did you stop by? In a past life I took over the job that his wife had, when she became a realtor! She managed a brewery for the Rocky Mountain region, I would get my cigars from David. Small world....

I did! I was futzing around town waiting for my father's flight. I found a decent package store off Colfax and the guy said he thought there was a cigar shop near 18th and Market. It took me a while to find on foot being buried back there behind everything. Well worth it.:ylsmoke:

Day 6

We woke just before sunrise. I slept pretty easily upstairs, but my father, even though he was down in the truck, had a tougher time with the heavy winds. I saw it as an opportunity to test the new tent and awning - both came through with flying colors. The sunrise was phenomenal. I opened the large tent windows and soaked in the view. There was a sharp chill in the air - rather than jump straight into breakfast and the logistics that come along with making a meal we fired up the camp-fire-in-a-can, put on a pot of coffee, and kicked back. A few hours and a couple of pots of coffee later we figured it was time to head out. We had a shorter day - Airport Tower to Potash Road then on into Moab to camp civilized for a night before heading home. This was an easier day with more mind blowing scenery. It was a great cap to the off highway portion of the trip when we stumbled across land owned by Moab Salt Co (I think that's right) near the end of Potash Rd. I'm not sure what they're doing out there but it is some of the bluest water in one of the most unexpected places I have ever seen.

We ended this day in Moab at Slickrock Campground. It was neat to see all the decked out cruisers there for Cruise Moab. We hung out the rest of the afternoon and that evening, and I wished I could have stayed longer. Someday. My 80 is pretty stock, and I'll need a few more doodads to keep up with those fellas. That night someone mentioned the I-70 pass had been closed a day earlier after a heavy storm. The drive back the next day would be fun!

Very cool and great trip recap!!! My buddy did Easter Jeep Safari this past year with is dad (74) and they both had a blast. His dad was in my JK a lot, his YJ had a 8" or so lift on it... easier to get into the JK.

Love the pics.

I'm heading out to the White Rim in about a week right after the Expo. Can't wait!

Days 7 & 8

We left Moab around 8 a.m. and took Hwy 128 to I-70. It was a great morning drive, albeit a bit smoother than what we had become accustomed to. The drive through the Rockies later that day was nice, too. The roads were fine, but there was plenty of snow on the ground to enhance the scenery. I dropped my father off at the airport in Denver then hightailed it as far east as I could make it through Kansas. After 14 hours, including overcast weather and snow in Kansas City, I crashed in Salina and slept in the truck.

The next morning I struck out early and finished the last 12 hour leg home. It rained the entire weekend I was back which was kind of nice. I stayed inside with my family - we played games and kept close. This weekend I'll start tearing into the truck and planning the interior build. Fun times.

So that's my trip. Hope you enjoyed.

I've been sold on the 80 from very early on. It's an excellent platform for many different reasons that I won't go into here. The CampTeq pop top is total game changer. It takes a vehicle that's already well appointed and transforms it into, what I feel will be, one of the most versatile overland options available. Big props to Eric the owner at CampTeq. Both his product and his service after the sale were top notch. I am a very happy camper. :D
