Come-along

I agree. As I said before, solo expedition travel makes a come a long very useful. If you're out for the day with a bunch of friends trying to get stuck, no way you're going to pull out the come a long with another vehicle and winch nearby. But if you're in the middle of no where by your self and you need to pull your rig in a direction other than forward, it's very nice to have.

I have one now in the FJ80 until I get my proper front wench. But I will most likely keep it on the rig along with the front wench... never know.

Just had to comment on this from WAAAY early in the thread...

Wonder what the wife/GF thinks about him waiting for the "proper wench" or about being referred to as the "front wench" :wings:

I'm probably going to get a wyeth-scott and was searching the forum to see if anyone mentioned a great price from anywhere, and came across this.
I was in discussion with Wyeth-Scott to try and adapt their come-along to my needs. They have a new spool which they figure will fit 40' of rope. In the end what killed it for me was their short handle. You need 316 lbs of pulling effort to lift 3000 lbs (single line) -- and since the handle is their fail-safe system (handle bends when rating is exceeded), you can't really use a 'cheater bar' with it.
Since one would normally grip the handle in the 6" area at the end of the handle, I don't see any reason you couldn't safely use a cheater bar as long as you didn't slide it on the stock handle more than 6". There's a risk of it slipping off that close to the end, but you could use a lock pin about an inch from the end.

Well, I ordered one, guess I'll see on Friday if they are still as good as the ones I used 20 years ago.
