Hello Overlanders!
I thought someone else could make use of dumb idea #426 (from my extensive "manual of dumb ideas", volume 2)
Space is such a premium with a compact truck and a popup camper, I would imagine most people use a hitch hauler to bring along some extra junk. I also need an interim step to get in and out of the camper during travel. ( I have a more extensive step system to deploy when we are actually camping) I also need a multi-purpose camping table to cook and grill on (I hate squatting to cook) eat on, and someplace to put the ipad when we're round the fire watching a flick. Why not combine them all?
I bought this handy little table from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Camp-Table-wi...id=1393455164&sr=8-3&keywords=Camp+Chef+Table
It's all-steel construction, made for dutch oven cooking. You can build a fire ON the table if you want to. Or you can put the table over the fire, too. Heat is not a problem. I then bought a hitch adaptor:
http://www.amazon.com/Hitch-adapter...5440&sr=8-1&keywords=Haul-Master+-+item#65024
I took it all to a local welding shop, where they added to the length to stiffen it up, and abricapocus! I have a hitch-hauler, step thing that becomes a table when we get to camp:
But, a word to the wise: if you do any stream crossings, your firewood will get wet!
