Well if you are referring to the pics above thats Orange, not me, but yes we tried several different ways of weaving it and they would always have at least one snap come loose on the heavy bags.

Ooops, my bad. Sorry for confusing your separate posts; I should have been paying closer attention.

Do you think the MOLLE snaps would be strong enough to stay attached on a tailgate that swings up, specifically a Cherokee? I really like the idea, but since my hatch swings up, the bags would be hanging when it was open.

I had looked at mounting the FJ MPAC rack on my rear hatch also but my concern is just how much weight the gas struts could handle. I used a hanging weight scale to see how much pull was required to bring the hatch down; about 15 to 18 pounds. I am guessing that anything I hang on the hatch should total less than ten pounds.

nice, I really wish I had room on my trac for something like that.

Couldn't someone cheap out on the rack part and use a metal mesh/grate back? Once i find a pic of what im talking about, I'll st it

Are the packs available in different colors like the Smittybuilt GEAR seat covers are?

Those packs are just standard MOLLE/PALS-compatible pouches, available from a myriad of sources, in just about every possible shape and size, and a wide range of colors.

Do you know the weight of the rack alone? How about the dimensions?

Thanks!

I weighed it, but honestly, I forgot what the weight was. I'm pretty sure it was less the three pounds.

Dimensions:
20.25" wide
12" tall
1" deep

If you weave the straps in and out of the slots, the snaps won't be the primary source of holding the bag on in an overhead situation. Nor would I be concerned about a snap opening up when closing a TJ style tailgate if you weave them in and out.

Just for clarification...

The idea of the MOLLE straps is to weave it not only in and out of that metal grate/holder, but also through all of the webbing on the back of the pack. Or, at least, every other web strap.

After playing around with bag locations and what not, I tried it when I stacked the little pouch on the big bag and then I saw how securely the two were attached to each other. Works very well.

this pics short of shows it, though not very well.

There will be a package deal available, similar to teh FJ rack and bag combo, but some of the bags have not arrived yet - there's some custom ones that are made to fit in the door pockets on TJs - these are the ones that are still being made.

The rack alone is $175: http://www.springtailsolutions.com/gpage1.html

But if you are patient, it will be worth waiting for the package deal.

I can't view the link here at a .gov computer but there should be a video how to here. Speaking from experience...yes it can be a pain to weave it right. I can see it being even worse on a solid rack like the one above. But when done right it should be very secure.

I really like this. The rack is pretty expensive, but I wonder how the MOLLE packs would work with one of those stainless steel shelves.

It would be very convenient on the underside of the lid of my Chaser.

I was in on the group buy when these were released for the FJ Cruiser, they are very nice.

Here they are on mine.

I do not have much room in the cargo area, so these packs are very nice.
