Coolant leaking somewhere

Seems to be running at normal temps again, no leaks.
Needle is below halfway point which is where it always runs even in August.

Without seeing the vehicle, it's impossible to say where the leak is. But, just because you can see it dripping in one place, doesn't mean to say that's where the leak is. Coolant can leak from one area, then run down the engine to drip off in another area. Squeezing on a coolant componenent will cause the leak to show itself but nothing more. The coolant system needs pressure testing at a garage qualified to test cooling systems to identify and cure the cause of the leak

Definitely correct but maybe you missed, it... he was able to find & fix the leak.

I can hear a little air in there sometimes, but the box on wheels is running great again.
I can see myself modifying the firewall in the future. Seems like a terrible design flaw to have such a vital component stuck in a place that makes what should be an easy fix an impossible fix anywhere else by your driveway.

Actually the hose needs to be replaced at most every 5 years. It rarely fails but of course with age, you hear about the issue more frequently now. I wouldn't bother unless it REALLY bugs you and you're out of other areas to fix/mod/upgrade.

Also you shouldn't have any air noises if you bled the air properly. When I bled mine, I drove the front onto two ~12" tall vehicle ramps for the process and it's what I recommend to others bleeding the air out of their cooling systems.

You just replaced the easy part of the heating system. To replace the heater core you will be removing the dash. So don't add any stop leak or such crap that may damage the core.
