Cycling Shorts Suggestions

Hey there all:

I have been riding with a pair of Mtbr shorts from ZOIC for the last 6 months that I quite liked but the chamois has started to detach and I would love to replace them with the same model but they have been discontinued. RAGE QUIT.

So I'm on the hunt for a new pair of shorts for all day riding/touring. Preferably looking for suggestions of shorts with a removable liner and have an inseam of less than 12in. No long DH shorts.

Who's had good luck with a pair of shorts lately? Do tell.

Because there appears to be absolutely no consensus on riding attire on the internet. Surprise, surprise.

I've been looking at the base shorts from Kitsbow, anybody have experience with their shorts? Made in Canada, quality materials, but they also make Rapha bibs look like a bargain. Yikes.

Gore Bike wear makes nice shorts. Also I just got some Rapha bib's that are amazing. I've been riding/racing for over 20 year and the old saying rings true, "you get what you pay for". Spend the extra $$ and you'll get years out of a good pair of shorts.

I have to second that Gore Apparel recommendation. I bought a whole Gore ensemble for my trip to Iceland and man, I was impressed. However, my other recommendation is to look into Club Ride. I really like their shorts, even if their liners suck. As such, I have tended to use their outer shorts for touring, but under them I often wear Sugoi or Pearlizumi liners or even bib shorts.

Ask many who ride multi-day tours and we well all tell you, if you take two pairs of shorts/liners on a trip, make sure they have different pad shapes. If you *** gets tired, swapping to a different pad shape can really help.

Sugoi makes my preferred chamois. Second to that might be Pactimo, but only because I've probably logged 75,000 miles in Pactimo team issued kits in the last decade.

Did you use their rain gear for the Iceland trip, Christophe? If so, how was the fit on the bottoms? Any chain snag?

I like how Gore's website lists 'touring' for refining results. Oddly reassures me that they are paying attention to that niche market.

I used Gore GTX pants, but my Arcteryx jacket. The pants rock. I got HAMMERED by weather and they were amazing. They have a very trim lower leg section with adjustable velcro to keep them snug to your leg. They also have a tall back section so they don't give you plumber butt. I also used Gore's Windstopper shorts, Windstopper knee and arm warmers, a long sleeve jersey and a base layer. It was all amazing stuff. I have since added a GTX Gore jacket to my kit. But, I bought all of that stuff for Iceland's constant 45-55 degree temps and daily pounding of wind, rain and sleet.

I've been happily riding Boure shorts for the last several years. Excellent quality, value and top notch customer service. Made in US (Colorado).
