Death Valley Wander 2011

Aeon, what are the little lights mounted on your roof rack? I've been searching for a low profile light option that could work on my air deflector, and recalled seeing yours. How well do they work, would you recommend them?

Hi James! There are four Vision X Solstice lights mounted in the fairing, 2 spot beams and 2 flood beams. They are very bright for the size, and really efficient. I'm not sure on all the specs, that's my hubby's department...but we really like them :D

great pics

Great shots. Never been by Tea Kettle Junction when there weren't any kettles; strange. Where on Steel Pass was the "Piston Point" sign I've never seen that. Usually on a moto through there so maybe I need to slow down. Heading back in the beginning of november.

It's a little to the south of the Dedeckera Canyon section :)

One word - AMAZING. Seeing all of these pictures just makes me feel super stoked. Thank you for sharing. Were you folks on your own for the last portion of the trip? Death Valley is definitely on our list.

Fantastic pics and comments. I like that you don't over do it with HDR. Great eye.
There were plenty of kettles last week.

Thanks!

Thanks for sharing, you really got some great shots.

I'm helping a friend explore Death Valley for the first time in early December and I'm sending this link to him so he can see some of the possible places to visit.

Thanks again,

Fred

Yep, we were on our own the last 4 days :)

Wow! Amazing report and awesome photos!

I was just there in March and your photos reminded me of how awesome DVNP really is! You even stopped at Lunar Crater, which was on my original destination list, but which I ultimately bypassed because of the extreme cold (I hadn't realized how cold that part of Nevada is in late March.)

Did you ever go through Goler Canyon and Mengel Pass? I assume you didn't since I didn't see any photos of the Barker Ranch or Butte Valley.

Steel Pass and the Saline Valley are definitely on my "must see" list for my next DVNP trip.

Weird about the teakettles - it was covered with kettles in March. One even came from Russia or Eastern Europe as it had cyrillic engraving on it.

Maybe the NPS redistributes them to homeless people who like tea. ;)

Cool that you got buzzed by a stealth bomber, I've never seen one. There were F18s dogfighting over Ballarat, though.

Funny how a trip to DVNP only leaves me hungry for more!
