I might be game. I've wanted to do that trail.
I had a plan for a camping weekend...but plans may change...
I'll see how things pan out this week.

I rode the Gap last weekend both ways, it is the best shape I have ever seen it. I don't know if I should say this...I think it has gotten easier. The Tucson Rough Riders were out there doing some maintenance on the North end.

Jeff there is a bypass around the step, if you are a leary of it.

I may join you guys...not sure as of now, I might be going out to the dunes that weekend.

I'd heard that "they" made the north end very easy, scraped the wash road etc. Last time I ran it was January of 06 and up to the Step was fun. Agree on turning back there and running back to Catilina.

"They" came in and did some trail work which required a dozer. Basically it looks like they were trying to re-establish a actual trail after the floods. Everyone was going basically where ever they wanted, so a formal trail was cut (re-cut). This is why the north end was bladed. I went through not too long ago, and it is starting to wash out again (a good thing), and get a little more difficult.

Of course, if they have bladed it again since I was through last time, all bets are off.

I'm thinking meeting for breakfast at Claire's about 8, then hitting the trail by 9-9:30. Unfortunately, I have two holiday parties that night and it seems that others have things as well.

One idea is to run it to the step from Catalina, then turn around and come back out. That is the best part of the trail anyway. That would make a little shorter day.

What do people think of that idea?

I'd be good with that Jeff. But there is a possibility that I won't make it. It seems that a friend (who I have not seen in 3 or 4 years) is just about done with his buggy. Possible shake down run is the 16th up in Florence.

Ross, you bet.

I think it will be a fairly small group. Haven't seen you since the first Expedition Trophy so it would be good to see you again,

Saturday, Dec. 16 trail run, Charouleu Gap.

Meet for breakfast at 8 a.m., Claires Cafe in Catalina.

or

At the trailhead 9:15 a.m.

The plan, as of now, is to run to the step then come back out. A few of us have plans in the evening, and we'll have angry wives if we are late (hope to be off-trail by 4ish)

See you Saturday. My cell is 520-954-3156 if you are coming and need to reach me. I'll be on CB 4, but my CB doesn't always work well ...

Ran it by the wife, she'd rather run something a bit closer to home this weekend, but I'll keep an eye on this forum for future runs. We're gonna run a scenic route up by 4 Peaks with another group. Enjoy the run!
