Not sure what you're asking here, because if you buy new you can only get the 6.7. But it is the only one of the big 3 that meets all 50 states regs for the "new" 2010 standard.
If you mean how will the 6.7 hold up to the 5.9, well...the 5.9 was living free and easy due to an efficient design that held up well until the '08 regs kicked in. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the Cummins had to use EGR before '08, whereas Ford did...now, they all do.
I can't answer those questions but i do know that the tolerances on cummins parts are very tight. I work at the Fuel Systems plant and the injector tips i make have a stupid tight tolerance. I have a cousin who has had 2 5.9's and now the 6.7 in his new truck. He wishes that he could have gotten a 5.9 in the new one! He also hates the emissions components on the new engine! Cummins always seems to be ready for the "new" emissions standards a couple years in advance. Also being a Jeep owner i would rather have a straight 6 over a V8 diesel any day of the week!
