So here is my saga for this past Saturday AM. Figured I'd move the motor home to be able to get the D1 by the garage to work on it. So I started the MH and a terrible noise emitted from deep within, the starter was hanging up, so now I've got another job to do. Great!!
Then went to start the Rover, now named Piece of S!*t, and it wouldn't start. Turned over like a raped ape, almost like there was no comprssion, but wouldn't fire. Ok then I'll work on it right there then. Took out rivets and got to the Hi/Lo tower, took off bolt # 38 (as per Graham post #4) to be able to remove the tower as the shaft was binding, got it apart, used some emery cloth to clean shaft, greased and put it all back together, WORKS GREAT.
Tried starting it and just like normal, hit the key and vrooom.....only now there is a knocking/ticking sound from the engine. Shut off, check oil, good, restart......NO WAY, so now it won't start, and the 1 time it did it made that noise from right side, just a clanking/knocking sound. Just drove it friday PM and all was well. What ever......if engine is gone.....in will go a diesel this winter for something to do I guess.
