Yeah, there is no way in hell my SD is getting trimmed. I'm perfectly fine with it setting up like in the first pictures. I just wasn't sure if it was even possible, and wanted to double check before I took a trip to go get a RTT. Besides, with the RTT sitting high like that it doesn't interfere with the Hi-Lift, and shovel/axe, mounting.

I have to ask if you would never trim your SD rack why did you waste the bandwidth with this thread?

See this is the kinda stuff that just happens all the time around here. People asking for information or advice on things they allready know the wont listen too.

The SD racks are just racks, they are not some piece of precious gemstone that can only be found on the southern shore of a mystical island.

If you want a nice tight package without wasted space then cut the rack and fit the tent as low as you can on the roof.If you just want the people here to see you have a RTT then go for it and mount the thing as high in the wind as possible for all to see.

I think you are going to fit in real well around here:rolleyes:

I am going to trim my SD rack. Just trying to decide if off to the side or the back.

Michaels is working on some ideas on how to design the SD rack improvements so it can be put back together and not really be noticeable.

I don't really drive around with the rack on empty anyway. I may just trim the rack, put a RTT on, and leave it.

Thom, what RTT do you have?

Here's how I modified my SD rack to fit a Camping Lab tent.
I have to say that I'm very happy with the way it turned out.
I still have full use of the front basket when the tent is mounted.

Here's one from the side with the tent mounted. As you see, I still had room for a spare tire and a couple of water cans in the front basket.

I have a cheap Moombasa...I will upgrade it at some point but for now it serves the purpose.

Nothing wrong with a cheap Moombasa........I'm thinking about one of them or the Camping Lab. Don't really know the difference between the two.

As far as I know there is no difference. BTW, we sell the Mombasa and Eezi-awn tents as well, just not currently on our website.

Yeah, we went ahead and took a trip all the way down there to check it out in person but it just isn't going to work with my setup.

They are very nice tents. I bought mine last spring and have been very happy with it. Fernando from Camping Lab was a pleasure to deal with.
