well more news. AA automatically re-booked my flight on my behalf and according to their new plan I would spend Christmas eve alone in the Dallas airport.

So time to start looking for a plan B.

This is turning into a real overland journey. Flights are still cancelled left and right and there is more snow coming.

We managed to get booked on earlier flights out of Paris CDG.

So we are now trying to find a way to get to Paris. No flights and Eurostar is delayed/full.

Looks like we may need to get to the ferry on our own and hope to get a train from Calais.

Unless anyone has an idea?

You were pretty unlucky on the M1 there.
I live about 5 miles from where you were and that weather caught just about everybody out.

Judging by the news from Heathrow this morning you'd not have flown, unless you were on an Australian flight that got away Sunday, people sleeping on the floor in terminals everywhere.

Sadly the UK just isn't equipped to clear that amount of snowfall, and place has ground to a halt,
at least you saw Scotland and Wales before it really snowed

escape routes by sea

Dover Calais 1 hr

Southampton - Cherbourg- la havre 6-8 hrs
Poole - Cherbourg 6-9 hrs
Portsmouth or Plymouth to Santander in Spain 24 hrs

You can get to hamburg too but going south is probably better !

I've hitch hiked from the calais ferry port to Paris before, without issues
or chat up a coach , truck driver on the ferry

In the weather your having sat with a sign on the ferry in the main foyer might get you a heated ride straight there

CDG is just off the highway north of Paris

"Harmless traveller needs to get to CDG to get home for Christmas"

should do the trick !

EDIT current conditions at CDG SNOWING !

Take the Brittany ferries ship Portsmouth to Santander and fly out of Madrid !

the french have less snow plow's than the UK !

how about car hire from london to paris via channel tunnel
or london to calais via chunnel then train to paris
I think europcar has a drop point at ferry terminal.

Well we are officially stuck. Heathrow is pure chaos, both our flights have been canceled.

The earliest available confirmed seat on a flight is next Friday. Really.

So I guess that means more time to explore the London pubs.

:)

This isn't a bad option!

Train to Stranraer or Holyhead, ferry to Ireland then fly back from Dublin?

Well I hope you've cleared London by now...from what I hear London's at a stand still! Mind you, as I understand no where else abroad is fairing much better either. Maybe you ought to just stay a while longer until the snow melts.

:)
