Hmmm... It does the job and it is a good price. I just think I might have to pick one up. With the canopy and new bumper, I have just about lost all visibility.

I helped a local guy put Donahoe billet UCA's, Allied Machine 4 inch lift spindles and some other stuff on his 05 PreRunner yesterday.

He had an Odyssey 1700 MJT in his truck and it fits PERFECTLY in that stock location... I think this is the battery for me.

That's good news. I was supposed to have my Odyssey 1750 by now but it was shipped to the wrong address and it was sent back. Still waiting

Rear Bumper Sneak Preview!

Well, Steve at CBI sent me some teaser pics so I thought I'd share them here.

He is still working on the swingout, and other details like D-rings etc.

Obviously, I cant wait to get this on my truck and just in time for the ExPo Death Valley adventure!

A Yaesu 2M is in the works as well as a Magellan Crossover GPS and an Odyssey 1700...:box: :box: :box:

HAM license test is on the 12th...

Awesome looking rear bumper, Doc! Gotta love it. I love the wrap around & lower tail light protection. One cannot be squeemish about trimming the lower quarter panels back there. I plan to do some trimming soon, too!

Can't wait to see your finished bumper/swingout.

Low Tech Finish

First, I'm going to do a meticulous prep job.

Then, I'm going low tech with the Rust-Oleum self etching primer and black semi-gloss just like I use on my sliders. Many coats.

This way, it should be easy to touch up, even 10 years from now.

Powder coat is not as easy to touch up in my experience.

I've had really good luck with Line-x on my sliders and intend to do the same to my ARB bumper and rear bumper when its gets made.

Good choice going with CBI. My 4Runner's rear bumper/carrier is CBI’s prototype for the 4th Gen 4Runners. I like Steve's designs.

Wow! It looks like your getting even more rear clearance then I did with Steve's design for me. Very good look. Do you know how the swing out portion is going to be?

Painting it is the way to go. I really did not have much of an option other then to powdercoat the thing. Bummer's of living in an Apartment.

Powder coat is not as easy to touch up in my experience.

As an alternative, I like to use the following coating:

1-Sand blast part once finished.
2-Use zinc chromate primer immediately once sand blasted for optimum bonding.
3-Rattle can of your choice for easy touch ups down the road.

I used this method on my sliders and after 3 years of road salt and grime, I still had to use the mini grinder and grind off the prime before welding when I did my DIY bolt-on sliders V2. The primer was bonded super well to the steel. I've never seen anything like it. I've got a shop locally that will do sliders,
bumpers, etc... for arround $20-40 cash. The only catch is that you may end up with purple, grey, orange, green etc... colored primer because they use left over primer from other jobs. This is just fill in work for them. Once the bumper is put together, I'll be doing the same for a finish on it.

Waterproof Gear Containers

With the recent storm here in California I got to put my new gear storage setup to the test out at Anza Borrego.

Here is my bed cargo solution. One is for the kitchen and dry goods, the other has the our camp "head" and holds our daypacks. One Surplus boxes work great, double as camp furniture, are critter proof, and can be removed when I need to use the bed for hauling.

Boundary Waters Waterproof Bag from Cabelas holds sleeping bag, pillows, clothing etc. This is the Magnum size and is very durable IMO.

NICE! I love that rack. every time I see it I see something new. Makes me want to start a rack but I have to wait until the back bumper is made before I start on that.

PS - love the boxes, where did you get them.
