A snorkel wouldn't have helped in that situation, I was making a joke at the expense of the limb risers which have been the subject of debate here too. As others have noted, the new Tacomas are really very light duty trucks with minimal actual off road engineering; the cheap seals and bearings and the failure rate on trucks that actually see offroad use are proof of that.
That said, that was a damn good team effort on that recovery and they were lucky the one fellow had a set of waders. Here's hoping the truck isn't in too bad a shape.
