Drive shaft question?

I made it out on a trail today and the rear drive shaft took a beating on the rocks. I was wondering how much rock rash is too much before I have to replace it. The u-joints are untouched it is just the tube has some fresh rings and scratches. Some of the scratches are pretty deep but there arent any dents. I drove home on the freeway without any vibrations, so I figure I am in the clear.

Scratches won't bother it. Dents will compromise it.

Roto or 4 bolt?

Do you still have Roto or convert to Ujoints? When I still had Roto it used to get trashed every outing.

I just have U-joints but they are fine its just the tube got pretty chewed. I will take some pics tomorrow.

Just check the sliding joint is still sliding and there is no lateral play between the 2.

Its the front shaft you want to watch, when the U joints do go the shaft has a habit of taking out the trans. Make sure thats been rebuilt with grease fittings.
