Droid phone problems

I have a DROID phone by Motorola that's almost 2 years old.

Lately, I've been getting what I call "The Black Screen of Death"

When I turn the phone on, then slide the little padlock icon to unlock it, the screen goes black.

The phone still makes the 'click' sound, both when you turn it on, and turn it off.

Only way to fix it that I've found, is to pull the battery, reinstall it, and restart the phone.

Occasionally that works, sometimes I have to do that twice.

Any ideas as to what's up with it?

I haven't installed any new apps recently.

Only settings I've changed was for the G+ pic function. It used to autoload the pics after taking them, I changed the settings so it only uploads when I have wi-fi.

Get a Casio Commando ! I am very happy with mine, plus it has "Expo" style. Uhg can't belive I said that. ;)

PS.. I ran it over with a tractor and only a tiny scratch.
Sorry I can't help with actually fixing your phone..

Is it the original 1st gen Moto Droid? I had that happen every once in a great while with my phone, but it was a rare occurrence and pulling the battery always did the trick. This went on for a while about 6-8 months ago, and then seemed to disappear. Could never really explain why it started, or why it stopped.

Are you sure you're up to date with your system updates?

I recently took advantage of what little benefit remains in Verizon's "new in two" deal and replaced it with a Droid Razr, which I love so far.

I too had the original Droid, and that happened a few times.
I upgraded to the Bionic when it first came out which is way faster, and has been problem free.

Thanks for the info guys. I've had the phone for two years next month, and plan on upgrading.

I believe it is the first gen Droid, and all the updates are current.

Since my insurance company has a great phone app, I was taking pics of my garage/truck fire with the phone.

I could simply open the app, and upload the pics directly to my claim (either from the camera 'gallery' or by opening the claim in the app, and taking a pic)

I had about 20 pics, when the phone went 'Black'. Didn't realize until later, when uploading pics to photobucket, that I lost around 15 pics.

Only thing I can figure, is the pics hadn't made it to the 'gallery' before I pulled the battery out, and they went 'poof'.

Bionic, Razr and Casio Commander, going to check those out.

I need a rugged phone, the Casio sounds good.

I just upgraded to the Razr, it's a great phone, but still a lot of bugs that are not done being worked out. My biggest gripe is email syncing and working properly. I was using the email stuff that came on the phone, didn't always work. Spent an hr on the phone with Verizon, the guy had me down load a new email app. which sort of cleared up the problem but created a new one that I need to sort out. I almost with I would have gone the Commander route. The Razr is 4G, Commander is 3G. If your not in an area that is primarily 4G, skip the Razr and stick to the Commander.

Not much 4G up here (if any?)

just sayin

Darn thing did it again, locked up 4 times on me, and did some other weird stuff- stuck screen, forse close APP's (4 different ones)

My garage and truck burned last week. Well, my insurance Co. has a great phone app, and I can easily submit pics from my phone (either from the 'Gallery/folders' or just Take a Pic')

Well, it started out great. I can load 4 pics at a time, each with a note/caption.

Got 4 sent, and the phone locked. Got it going again by dropping the battery and reinstalling.

WHAM! Lost a dozen pics I had taken during the hour previous. GRRRR!

Below freezing, and whipping winds, I go back out and take more pics.

Head inside, and start sending pics. Happens again, but this time, my ins co app locks and 'force closes'.

Long story short, I'm sick of my phone acting up. I've 'uninstalled' any app I don't regularly use, cleaned out everything I could think of, etc.

One other thing that bugs me, somehow, Facebook automatically moves my contacts, and messes them up.

It mixed up two contacts, 'Jeff' and 'Jefferson'

I got a text from Jeff, and it showed 'Jefferson' as the contact?? I never used the FB app on my phone.

Top it off, the phone will not allow me to edit the contacts becuase they are from FB??

Only Jefferson is on my FB account on my laptop, Jeff is not.

I checked out both the Razr and the Commando after you guys posted them, I really like the Commando! Being that tough, it's right up my alley!

Our contract is up next month (or March?) Not waiting that long, going up next week to check out the phones in person.

Thanks for the feedback and info guys!

Fireman, I had a Casio "G'zone" heavy duty flip open phone before I got the DROID. I loved that phone!

Had it sitting on the pass seat in the CJ, summer time, no doors.

Took a hard turn from the main drag onto the ave by my house- phone went flying out of the Jeep at 20+ MPH!!

I get home, grab my 'phone' and sunglasses. So I thought.......An older couple driving along spotted the phone. They stopped, picked up the phone and battery.

Put the battery back in, and searched the contacts, and called 'Home'.

My wife was wondering why I was calling here from the basement!

Other than a couple scratches, it was fine. Used it for another 18 months or so.
