How much of a dog is this engine without a turbo?
In a 4WD truck when kitted even moderately it would be like a 22R-E dragging an anchor at 14,000 feet. S L O W. And this coming from a confirmed right lane slow poke! It's rated for about 70 HP and 115 lb-ft of torque. The later (1985+) 22R-E is a 115 HP and 140 lb-ft for comparison.

16 Years on ExPo. Whoa!!
Those 2Ls are gutless for the record though. I really dig the truck regardless. Even the 2L-Ts are borderline "run" don't walk diesels because of mechanical problems. They just don't last and are pretty weak, and parts are very hard to come by. I had a friend who almost bought one with a blown injection pump and we couldn't find a single rebuilder in Utah.

That is a nice truck. The diesel certainly makes it very, very rare, I personally have never seen a 4x4 in person.

I bet the sheer thoughts of stocking one of these in 85' would make the dealer nervous for the year or so it sat there. The few 2wd's that sold as commuter vehicles were fairly scarce, but a 4x4 would even eliminate most commuters.

How much did the diesel add to the value over a 22r or re? Looked like a 4-5k truck in this area with the gas to me, maybe Cali is alot different.

Congrats to the new owner.

deisel

hello all

i bought a new toyota deisel 4x4 in 84 in san jose calif for 14k, mazda also had a new deisel model out as well that year alittle cheaper.

both great trucks, my friend got the mazda called a B2200. both trucks got over 35 mpg on the highway. i put 180000 on mine before i sold it and never had any mechanical work done on it. my friends mazda proved to be just as reliable. to bad neither manufature condinued those models. guess the public just weren't ready for them back then. they were great little trucks.

cheers lehel
