Eezi Awn 2200 on a JK Unlimited

I don't mean to revive this thread but I'm looking to run the Eezi Awn 2200 on my JK. Did you mount this and if so, which rack did you use? Is it compatible with Gobi? Any tips, reviews, regrets, etc?

Thanks

Hi Voodoo, aparently this thread is dead...

I have to concur with what Martyn says ..... but I think that both tents will overpower your Jeep. You forgot to work the weight of the rack into your calculation.

Quite a few years ago I had a discussion with an engineer with Land Rover about rack weights and vehicle dynamics. We were talking about the Disco and he said that even though the recommended weight on top of a Disco is very high he said in his opinion that the max weight should be 145 pounds, more than that you can feel it when you are driving.

On a more practical note. I don't think you would be happy with a 120 pound rack and a 187 pound rooftent on a daily driver, that is a lot of weight. I personally am a big believer in taking a rooftent off when you aren't using it, and with this weight it would take a few helpful friends or a lift.

I would suggest talking to Martyn about a trailer. And it is OK to yell at me, I know I sound like an old crank but I've been doing this for a while.

Give it some time; some of the people who post here have jobs and lives.... :)

Hehehe I said its dead because the last post was in begining of december and its an old one, the guy probably already bought his RTT :)

BTW, did you call Baja yet?

Nopez, their site still is not fully online...

We are currently doing website maintenance – we recommend that you clear your computer's cache. We apologize for any inconvenience. We will try our best to get the site updated as soon as possible. Thank you.

I will not bother call without even seeing some detailed pictures before.

Vizoo,

good luck with your trip. Have you decided on a RTT yet? I'm now leaning towards the 1600 or 1800 sized tents with separate rooms. Which Roof Top rack have you chosen?

Sooo... I have not. Here is the dilema:

1- The CTC BIG (or 3-person) has the best price and is MUCH lighter then all the others, also its base is aluminum instead of plywood. Fabric is thinner and not waxed but its a "price" I'm willing to pay for its lightweight. The size (94x72) is the minimum I am considering. What is my problem with it? It does not have the optional Private Entry, that covers the stair, this is a must for me since I am not willing to have to "go outside" on the rain to get something in the car or even reach the changing room. CTC offers it on the 2-person tent, but it is very small for the two beds configuration that I'm planing (did you see the drawings?).

2- Eezi-Awn apparently has the best quality material and finishing (although its base is still plywood). The 1800T has the Private Entry, but at $3,175.00 it cost DOUBLE the price of CTC.

I have been in contact with CTC owner and he told me the Private Entry for the Big Tent is in prototype stage but he cannot guarantee when it will be released.
If I had to decide today, maybe I would pay premium on the Ez to have the extra room of the private entry, but since my trip will only begin in June I maybe wait until february to see if CTC comes with a good news.

For now I am not even considering the Ez 1600 (63 in) or the CTC 2-person (55 in).

I will finish my parts and accessory weight spreadsheet and if I see I cannot fit the 210 lb of the Ez I might get the CTC, a sewing machine and do my own Private Entry. This is not really a bad idea after all...

What is the 1800 with separate rooms?

Have you looked at the Howling Moon Tents? I understand they will come out with a 1800 tent this spring and Bunduu Guy (forum vendor) told me they can insert a dividing wall, similar to the EZ 1800.

They actually have a 1600 and 2400, no real info about release or available date of a 1800 (nor any other) in the US market. Bundu's latest "news" on the website is dated July 19, 2010!!

Also the Stargazer, that is the one with private entry is not cheap at $2195 + $575 for the extension, and that price is for the 1600!

I would maybe consider if they have a 2000 (2 meters) model.

Sorry we have not updated our "News". Since we do not have a definite date for our 1.8m tent, we are not going to publish it just yet. It has just been released in the South African market, so there is obviously a lag in getting it here. The privacy divider is a custom item we would be doing for Voodoo, and is not a standard item.
Yes, the Stargazer 1.6 is $2195. After the addition of the annex, we are still below the cost of a comparable Eezi Awn but with significantly more space in the annex. A lot of money, we agree, but in line with the value and longevity that a premier tent offers.
Unfortunately no 2m version in the making.

As for the rack, I'd go for the Gobi - hands down.

It's the only one I've owned, but I personally checked out other racks on other peoples Heeps before I made the decision.

It's the best manufactured, best engineered rack out there, I'm convinced of that.

Thanks for the input, unfortunatelly 1.6 is way to small for my son and I, our primary option was the EZ 2200. But it is so heavy for the JK that I may get the 1.8 from CTT. May be it will not last as long, but is half the weight and half the price. If you had a release date and maybe willing to discuss some kind of sponsorship I could go for the 1.8 from you.
