I looked around on the web but couldn't find anything. Does anyone make something? Anyone have any ideas on home brew?

Hardware store, buy a 3prong female extension cord end. They have different kinds made for fixing extension cords. Just seal up the end that would normally be attached to an extension cord with some caulking or something. Just plug it onto the end and it should keep it away from the elements. :)

You're just looking for a cover for the prongs? If so, go to a local junkyard and find almost any car with a block heater. Most of them have covers attached. Snip off the end and slide out the cover.

Edit: Like this type of cap right?

Homebrew: My dad used to make one out of cork. Easier on the hands in the cold.

Home Depot here sells a bunch of different styles of covers too. Probably stock you wouldn't see in SoCal though. -28C with the wind right now and falling... :)

Yeah, I was about to say, not too many block heaters found in SoCal. I still think that Home Depot would have something though.

I'll go check out Home Depot and the other hardware stores in the area. No biggie, was just food for thought i guess.

Thanks Pete and Chris for the ideas.

McMaster lists something like those for $13.41 P/N: 8036K1
A local electrical supplier might have for even less.

Glad to help -
I use the motor base plate on a full sized bronco - it powered: block heater, dual battery heater/blankets, and dual maintianers/chargers. Never wanted to see how much current it drew.

Drove a van at the South Pole and it had the following heaters: Left Freeze Plug, Right Freeze Plug, Tank Heater on the radiator, imersion heater drilled into the oil pan and the transmission pan. Used straight glycol for coolent.
